Windows XP (Pro) SP2 Firewall

HELP! I have a small home network setup.
One Desktop for me, one dektop for my two girls,
a laptop for work, my wife's laptop, and my son's laptop for college work.

All in "WORKGROUP" connected through wireless Verizon FIOS broadband
router.
I had Zone Alarm FREE as the firewall.
I also have CAI Anti-Virus.

Both CAI Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm FREE needed an update.
One of them (can not recall which) would not play nice with the other, said
I needed to disable/turn-off.

So, I turned off and ultimately uninstalled Zone-Alarm (I believe it was
ZA's update that was the culprit.) And I turned on Windows Firewall.

NPW, when I go down to My Network Places, Entire network, MS Windows Network
- I can see the WORKGROUP, but I can NOT see any of the connected computers!
When I try to select WORKGROUP: "ERROR", it says that I am not authorized.

How to get Windows Firewall to allow home networking?

You need to ask this question in a group for Windows XP, not this .NET
programming group.
I'm crossposting this to an appropriate group for you.

Sorry, I couldn't find from drop-down, an XP specific, and thought I was in
an XP General subject. Where did it get cross-posted to? And will i still
get notified of replies? (New to forum- obviously!)

I crossposted it to:

microsoft.publi c.windowsxp.net work_web

The group should appear near the bottom of your scroll-down list, along with
other groups for Windows XP and Vista.

Hopefully, readers in the network_web group will send their replies to both
groups so you can see them in either group.

Well, the person should enable the File and Print Sharing Exception FW rule
on the XP FW, use Google and look it up on how to use the XP Exception
Firewall rules.

The person should be posting to a FW NG like comp.security.f irewalls.

I've recently done an upgrade installation to SuSE PRO 8.2 from same/8.0. The problem now is that I don't seem to be receiving data from forms to PHP-processing pages using either POST or GET for the form method. When I use GET, I see that the URL has been correctly formed with the variable name embedded in the URL along with the properly formed value:

This command works on my home computer: if($locsock = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, SOL_TCP)) echo "Socket created\n"; My home computer is running Mac OS X, and is on a small LAN behind a NAT router with a hardware firewall (no software firewall). I tried to execute the same command on a school computer. It's running XP Pro and is on a large LAN behind a NAT router and a (very overprotective) hardware firewall. It's also running...

Are there any known issues with developing ASP.NET web applications directly on Windows 2003 Server running VS.NET 2003 Pro, SQL Server client tools, and using VSS for source control? Essentially using W2003 Server as a desktop with the exception of leveraging IIS 6.0. Thanks in advance. Mark

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
