Share folders with Vista & XP(SP3) Computers

675 Contributor
This used to work, but now it doesn't.

From the Desktop, trying to click the folder in Microsoft Windows Network
\\Laptop\Folder is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied
| O K |
From the Laptop, again trying to click the folder in Network
Windows cannot access \\Desktop\Folde r

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
| Diagnose | | Cancel |
Clicking Diagnose get a long message:
"Folder" is available but the user account that you are logged on with was denied access

Windows cannot further diagnose the problem because network diagnostics does not know the user name and password that is required to connect to the shared folder

Make sure you typed the path correctly and you have permission to access the shared folder
If you are trying to access the shared folder with a user name and password that is different from what you used to log on to this computer, ensure that you have entered them correctly. Click for more information about permissions

Hi, I just got a new computer the other day with Windows Vista. I've been trying to connect it to a network of 2 Window's XP computers without much luck. the Vista computer can access the internet and print fine through the D-Link router. I've downloaded the patch on each of the XP computers that everyone recommends, i've tried turning off all firewalls and switched sharing options on. On the Vista: when i show the entire network...

Checking the Registry, I find a software uninstalled some ago is still recorded under the Legacy entries. Any attempts to erase this from the registry is denied. Can these Legacies entries applying to a particular software title be made able for removal from the Registry? - what steps are required to do so safely? -- Your assistance is most appreciated.

Hi group, I have an annoying "Out of memory" problem I cannot solve. Here is the error: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 2028994560) (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\wav_edit\WavForgeErwin.php on line 95 The PHP file in question DOES need a lot of memory for soundeditting.

I'm thinking about installing XP SP3. Does it work pretty well with VS2008 SP1 and associated products (SQL Server 2005 SP2), etc...? Should I install XP SP3 before or after VS2008, VS2008 SP1, etc...?

We have installed SP3 on our computers here and a strange thing has happened. Mostly it's happening on laptops but I've seen it on a couple of our desktops as well. When I go to a website that has a calendar to click on, the calendar doesn't pop up (popup blocker isn't on!). Also, when trying to log into websites, neither the ENTER key nor clicking OK will take you there. Also, if I go to Start, Search, the assistant is there but the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
