Recovering a Vista machine after it has been formatted

8 New Member
Hi All,

I have a Vista Home Premium 64 bit laptop. Is it possible to recover the system using recovery disks after it has been formatted? Also, is it possible to recover after formatting and reinstalling Vista (or any other OS for that matter)?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

If nothing has been writen to the drive then the data should be almost completly recoverable. using Google you should be able to find some comercialy available software to do the recovery. You would have to do the recovery from another computer with this HD attached to it. After recovery you could try a repair with the drive reinstalled back into your laptop.

If you have written files to the drive then whatever has been overwritten is gone for good. You may be able to recover some files that have not been overwritten but even then a certain percentage of them will be no good due to a part of the file being overwritten.

Hello, I'm trying to get an MUI string out of the registry in display friendly format. From what I've read, strings in the following format: “@\dllname,-strID” are MUI strings and receive special handling via the RegLoadMUIString API call. This is what I have come up with for the call: internal static extern long RegLoadMUIString(IntPtr hKey, string pszValue, StringBuilder pszOutBuf, int cbOutBuf, out int pcbData, uint Flags,...

Hi, On Friday I attended the Microsoft EVO conference in London where they talked about Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 and how they all work together beautifully, how they were all "people-ready" etc... I asked a couple of questions about Visual Studio.NET on Vista, especially on 64-bit Vista, and they became *very* nervous... To cut a long story short, Microsoft will not support ANY version of Visual

I tried installing my VS2005 Pro on Vista Ultimate 32 bit RTM today and got errors stating that VS2005 was not compatible with Vista. Microsoft......please pull your finger out of my ass and tell me this is a joke. It must be a joke....because I also have read that VS2002 and VS2003 will not be supported on Vista. This clearly violates Microsoft's own terms of support for these products.

Hi all... Well my earlier post aboout not being able to access http://localhost has been resolved. I am still having problems testing my Web site project. First, thanks to Juan Libre I edited my HOSTS file and can access localhost. However, what I found in the HOSTS file was not what I expected. Juan mentioned that the following line might be missing. 127.0.0.1 localhost

Even though I had my roots and highlights redone just a few days ago, I don't understand why I appear to be having an ongoing blond moment. Is it just me or do others among you not 'get' how to make C# and VB.Net applications play nicely with the the UAC on Vista. I have read and reread everything I can find on UAC, 'strong-naming' of assemblies, 'authenticode signing' of assemblies and, even though I'm not your average thicko by any...

Hi all, So I bought a new laptop 10 days ago to test my apps with Vista. (home premium) Apparently Office 2007 is pre-installed. (a time limited but complete test version, no SP1) So I take the opportunity to test some new features of Access2007 before actually 'stepping over'. First thing that troubles me of course is 'the ribbon', but my question now is about speed. I opened one of my Access 2000-apps in Access 2007. Speed and...

Hi all, I've been struggling with an issue that I hope you can comment on or provide suggestions to. Our .NET 2.0 (VS2005) based product is crashing (when the user selects a particular feature on the UI) on Vista. It works fine on XP. In a nutshell: - user makes a selection on the UI - System.Reflection.MethodInfo.Invoke() calls into one of our .NET library dlls - Inside the library dll, System.Activator.CreateInstance() is called

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
