One reason could be the antivirus software.Check your task manager that which applications are running and how much memory it is using. And also check the user of the applicaton who is using memory the most.

The solution could be now a days there are so many antivirus software that uses less memory and is more effective.Like Avira Antivir.Which doesn't affect the system performance and is very much effective

I wouldn't do that if I were you. SP3 adds quite a lot of fixes to Windows, so the security patches should always be up to date.

It might (as has been said) be the antivirus - which one are you using? It might also be other programs running in the background.

If you used a CD that came with that Laptop, it's quite probable, that further software except Windows was installed in the process. You may not need all of that, so check if you have unneeded software on your system.

Also, check the Autostart folder (or better: Start -> Run -> msconfig -> OK -> System Startup) and remove anything you don't need at startup.

Of course, it's always possible, that you just have a slow system - what are the specs of that laptop?

Nepomuk

Hello,

As nepomuk has stated previously:
I wouldn't do that if I were you. SP3 adds quite a lot of fixes to Windows, so the security patches should always be up to date.
If I remember correctly then OP had previously posted a question regarding update of SP2 to SP3 and at that time on his PC, XP SP2 was working pretty nicely. And SP3 is not that slow that we should recommend someone to uninstall it.

At present, I can only think of following two factors (both of which are mentioned by nepomuk previously) that may be degrading speed of OP's system:
1. Autoruns and programs such as antivirus etc. installed on OP's PC
2. Machine specifications may be too low to run SP3.

Well, we cannot think of anything else until we get machine specification :)

Hope this helps.......

If you can do one thing then please type msinfo32 from the run command it will give you information regarding the system .You just give that piece of inofrmation .So that experts can give you proper solution.Withou t knowing the system configuration we can only think of the possibility but not the solution accuracy. So, giving information can help us to solve your problem rather than beating the bush.

At first you should know about the virtual memory before changing it.And thinking it as your solution.

Virtual memory -If you are running media player 2 or three different emails,Word and one more application at the same time then it might not open the all application as the RAM is not available so, in this case the virtual memory of the machine is used.Virtual memory is used from the hard disk that you alot as virtual memory. So this memory is alloted for the apllication as RAM.So, you will be able to open the application. But as read/write spped of the hard didk is much slower than RAM,And the technology of hard disk is not geared towards accessing small piece of a data at a time.

As because of the above reason you will be able to run the application but there will be significant drop in the performance.

Hello, I'm looking for any work/paper/ressource about continuous system simulation using Python or any similar object oriented languages (or even UML theory !). I'm aware of SimPy for discrete event simulation, but I haven't found any work about continuous system. I would like to develop a generic continous system simulator, and so would be eager to join any open source effort on the subject.

Hi What in practice is required to run VS2005 pro? I currently have a spare machine which is a Pentium 4 1.5Ghz 512Mb ram XP 2 Home edition on which is just installed Team edition beta 2 , word and photshop. VS just crawls on this and I wondered if this was typical of the release version of pro as well and a daster machine is required? Many thanks

Hi all, While working on an Access UI to a MySQL database (which should be a reasonable, low-cost, flexible interface to the DB, better than web-based, much less costly than a full-fledged .NET app or so.... is it?), I tried measuring the bandwith consumed by the Access/MyODBC/MySQL link, which came out to be, er, quite high. I fancied it would be interesting to look at the queries Access throws at MySQL through the ODBC link, so I...

Hello, I have recently run a rather large data import where the imported data i pumped through some updatable views equipped with INSTEAD OF triggers. For various reasons, the exact same data where imported into the exact same table/view/trigger structures (but with slightly different tablespace configuration, see later). The involved hardware was different (one running on x86_64, one running on PPC), but with comparable CPU, memory and...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
