Hi folks,
Yesterday I have upgraded my linux box with a pair of Xeon 1G CPU and
reinstalled everything (it was a sinle Xeon 700). The default RH9
installation comes with MySQL 3.23.54. After the reinstallation I
found the machine was not as responsive as before. (It's not very
slow, but some lagging is noticed)
I was running Mysql-max 4.0.11 and the performance was ok, except the
slowness during the peak hours, which was regarded as...

I have a stored procedure that queries a database using a Select
statement with some inner joins and conditions. With over 9 million
records it takes 1 min 36 sec to complete. This is too slow for my
requirements.
Is there any way I can optimize this query. I have thought about
using an indexed view. I haven't done one before, does anyone know if
this would have potential to improve performance or indeed any other
performance...

I have an ASP group calendar application which pulls calendar data from
Exchange via webdav into an XML string. I then loop the XML nodes to
populate a collection of appointments. Finally I use the appointment
collection to populate the calendar control. The performance getting the
XML data is fine, but loading the data into the collection is slow. My
question/problem is should I be using the collection, a dataset, or
something else to...

I have a project built for ASP.NET that recently started running really slow
in debug mode (it takes about 10 seconds or more to step from one line of
code to the next).
This just started recently and only impacts one ASP.NET project. I have
some other ASP.NET projects that I can step thru with the debugger with
almost instant response. I also have some Windows Forms projects that work
normally.
I am running Visual Studio 2003 and...

I have a web page that at the click of a button must send a bunch (1000+)
emails. Each email is sent individually. I have the code working fine,
using Mail Message classes and smtp and all that. But sometimes even when
I'm just sending one e-mail the web page takes a minutes or so to post. Can
anyone tell me why it is so slow, or how to fix the problem?
To address this I am thinking of just creating a queue table to write the
emails...

Hi all,
So I bought a new laptop 10 days ago to test my apps with Vista. (home premium)
Apparently Office 2007 is pre-installed. (a time limited but complete test version, no SP1)
So I take the opportunity to test some new features of Access2007 before actually 'stepping over'.
First thing that troubles me of course is 'the ribbon', but my question now is about speed.
I opened one of my Access 2000-apps in Access 2007.
Speed and...

Hi,
Ive written a 3dmodel editor, and it works fairly well
it harldy uses any cpu exept when its loading a texture from bitmap
in the debugger, at all other times it hardly uses any cpu
but from the debugger even in release mode it takes a second or so
to load a 65k texture, with a 2ghz pc this is 10k instructions per pixel !
I cant understand what its doing here, can anyone shed any light on this ?
I have the d3d debug turned off...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
