Reinstalling Vista after having installed Linux

I want to install Linux (Kubuntu 7.10, 64-bit edition) on my pc, and I've noticed that for some reason I can't partition my hdd (probably microsofts fault) and so taht I will have to reformat it. So I wanted to know if there is any risk that I might not be able to reinstall Vista if I don't like the Linux after all.

If you have a VISTA DVD of some sort (either full or Recovery Disk), it should work fine... There's one thing that might cause a little difficulty (although it probably won't) and that is that VISTA might not recognise the disk, when it's formatted with ext3 (or whatever file system you use). But that can easily be solved by just deleting all partitions with a LiveCD, if you don't like Kubuntu.
However, make sure you save EVERYTHING you'll need for reinstalling VISTA - Keys, Programs, Documents, etc.

If you are wanting to mess with your partitions, I would check out gparted. It has a live CD and is fairly easy to use. Although, I don't know how well it works with Vista, so I would have my Vista DVD/CD ready.

Gparted works fine with Vista, at least it did for me. Your Live CD might have it on there as 'Partition Editor'.

Hi, On Friday I attended the Microsoft EVO conference in London where they talked about Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 and how they all work together beautifully, how they were all "people-ready" etc... I asked a couple of questions about Visual Studio.NET on Vista, especially on 64-bit Vista, and they became *very* nervous... To cut a long story short, Microsoft will not support ANY version of Visual

I tried installing my VS2005 Pro on Vista Ultimate 32 bit RTM today and got errors stating that VS2005 was not compatible with Vista. Microsoft......please pull your finger out of my ass and tell me this is a joke. It must be a joke....because I also have read that VS2002 and VS2003 will not be supported on Vista. This clearly violates Microsoft's own terms of support for these products.

I have created a three tier application consisting of Client (Exe and Exe.Config), Middle (WebServices) and Database tiers. The Client tier contains an Exe, an Exe.Config and a dynamic Web reference. The Exe reads a key-value pair from the Exe.Config file, which is a link to the appropriate WebService that it should connect to, and sets the dynamic Web reference’s URL. If the Exe.Config file does not contain the key-value or if the...

When I bought my new system a couple of months ago I actually paid extra to have XP Pro installed rather than Vista. Apart from anything else most of my clients still use XP. Eventually I will have to partition my system to allow for Vista to be loaded as well (I have a home licence) just to test compatability. I've also noticed we are getting more questions from members who are having problems on applications when moving them to Vista. ...

After having worked with Apache/MySQL/PHP for a year or so under Linux I need, purely for convenience, to set up a parallel platform under Windows. Unfortunately, since I last did this (using Windows XP Pro) I've moved on to Windows Vista (Home Premium). MySQL and Apache2 have both installed satisfactorily, but I'm having problems with PHP5. I downloaded the PHP5 Windows installer (the .msi file) for 32-bit Windows, which is supposed...

Hi All, Thanks to all the gurus here for making such a nice forum! I need some help on vista partitioning. I bought a new HP dv6000 laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit. But there is only one partition provided sizing 220 GB. I want to have following partitions without having to uninstall Vista or format drive: partition 1: 50 GB for Vista home premium 64 bit partition 2: 55 GB for Win XP x32 (I want to have dual boot) partition 3:...

Hi All, I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit installed on my HP dv6000 laptop. The laptop has a recovery drive from which I created the recovery disks. Since this drive was provided, MS didn't provide me the Vista OS disks (even though I have paid the license fee for the OS). My question is, Can I remove vista, format my drive and REINSTALL clean copy of Vista 64 bit that I originally got with the help of recovery disks? Or the disks are...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
