Network application usage mystery

7 New Member
Hello -

We have an Access database on a network drive, and I am currently trying to figure out who may have it open. All of our PC's are Windows based, and we use Novell as our NOS. Is there any tool or utility for finding out who has an application open on a shared drive?

Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated.

whenever an access file is opened it created a file of the saem name (and location) with the extension ldb. open that in notepad and it will tell you who is using the access file.

Hi I'm trying to get some control over the speed I'm sending out packets in a networking application. Using UDP sockets, if I send at full speed, I eventually have packets that never make it on the network, as it appears that my sending mechanism is faster than the card can send, and somewhere along the network layer chain, a buffer overflows and drops packets I'm sending down. Now I'd like to slow down the sending somewhat and I'm...

One of my coding partners swears you can capture the network login name so that we can use it to set security levels. If that can be done how do you do it. References to articles etc would be helpful

I've been working with Microsoft support for over 3 weeks now on an intermittent General Network Error we're seeing in our production environment between our ASP.NET application and SQL Server 2000. They are continuing to work on the issue, but it seems as if our progress is grinding to a halt. I asked this question on the newsgroups before going to MS but figured I'd give it another shot now that I have more information. The problem...

Good afternoon all i am currently battling with memory usage of my ..NET applications. A simple form with 2 text boxes, 3 command buttons use approx 8MB of RAM, though when compiled the exe is about 28KB. I am developing solutions primarily for terminal server environments and i cannot afford my applications to use this much memory. Can anybody tell me why i am using so much RAM? Kind Regards

I have an app that updates one or more SQL Server 2000 databases from data contained in one or more text files and also ftps some wav files. At the moment this process is triggered by a button press in a Windows app and I run it every day. The dbs are on one machine, the text files on another and the wav files are on a third. All three run Windows Server 2003 and are within the same network but the SQL Server machine is in a different...

Hello We have got a .NET application (.NET 1.1) that the users start from a network share. After start up the user logs in and he can then minimise the application, so that it appears as an icon down on the right hand side (like the date information, msn icon etc.). Now when the user wants use the application he must first maximise it or relogin (if he logged out before). On some machines this maximisation/startup time lasts extremely...

Hello! I am new to network programming, and understand just basics. Using some sample code, and having read documentation, I managed to create a simple app in C# and VB.NET. The application is supposed to do the following: monitor ALL INCOMING TCP traffic on the local computer, and save certain parts of it as files - not log files though, but actual files that are sent to the computer as part of http or ftp. Basically if a user browse a page...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
