do the following:

press windows+r (it will open run)
type: gpedit.msc

then click OK. This will start Group Policy. Expand the following: Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\A dministrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar. In the right pane you see options to enable/disable the Search and Run commands.

good luck

Of course, that's how we do it on XP Pro. I think that we may need to find another way to solve this on Home versions. (Maybe registry tweaks).

That's funny: I just checked XP Pro and XP Home Edition; The behavior that you describe was not what I was expecting AND it was not what I got. GPE is notoriously hard to start - maybe you have some special setting to make it easier. If so, please tell us about it.

I have an idea, if you right click on the start menu and click "Properties ", when the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window comes up if you click the "Start Menu" tab and click "Customize. ..", then goto the "Advanced" tab, and if you scroll through the window(Start menu items:) you should find "Run Command" and "Search" make sure thoose are checked. That might be your problem.

Hi, I'm trying to create an expandable menu system that updates depending on the page that you are on, if a page has sub sections and you are on that page or one of the sub sections then the menu will remain expanded. The database layout is along the lines of : ID | pagetitle | subpage This results in, for example, 'MyExamplePage' having the values : 12 | MyExamplePage | 0 But the subpages that are linked to this page having the...

Thank you for your help I think I know what the problem is. Firstly the add_record cannot read the record.txt or something if the record.txt (in which I used it to store the details of each record) is present in the same directory. When it prompt enter your selection from the menu, it will just stuck there so I cant even create a new entry and thus I cant check the modify function in my program. If it's not present, it will create a...

When a Button is clicked in a Web Form in an ASPX page, the Form will post back to itself. Under such circumstances (i.e. when a Button is clicked), will the Page_Load sub execute first & then will the Click event function of the Button execute or will the Click event function of the Button execute first & then will the Page_Load sub execute? Thanks, Arpan

The purpose: • Sorting and Searching • Numerical Analysis Design Specification You are to write a program called “StockAnalyser”. Your program will read a text file that contains historical price of a stock. The program will allow users to query the stock price of a particular date and output its statistics (mean price, median price and standard deviation) for any specified period. Your program must be menu driven and works as follows.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2. On the lower right side of the pop-up start menu there is normally a magnifying glass (icon) next to the word "search" in between links for "help and support" and "run". My "search" icon (and thus my link) in my start menu has disappeared and I have no idea how to restore it. This search icon/link appears, though, at the top of and on the left-hand side of the window that opens when I click "my...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
