Hello, everyone, I have found this site on chance and I hope that you can help with my dilemma. I have a crossover cable, but do not know how to configure both my PC and Laptop so that I can move files between them.
I'm sure this is a simple task, but it just arrived today and I'm still trying to get used to Vista.
Thank You in Advance.

I haven't tried this with Vista, but it worked pretty well in XP so I don't see why Microsoft would have gotten rid of the Transfer Wizard.
OK - I just re-read your post -
Using a cross-over cable, you'll need to give each machine its own IP address. Easy enough on XP in the TCP/IP Properties dialog box (don't know on Vista), but which IP to use??? All addresses in the range 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx are safe and commonly used by routers. As long as they have different addresses in the safe range, they should be able to talk to each other.

another way would be to put them both on the same workgroup (if u have any internet secruity u'll have to manually to set up a trust, required to work with Norton Internet Secruity)
good luck

When I launched the Windows Vista Easy Transfer, I went through the process and followed all the directions. But when I had to run the program on my old computer, when I...

I'm trying to build a exe on a vista system using py2exe. It will
deploy to vista and XP systems. If it matters, the application uses
pyserial, as well. I have VS Studio 2005 installed on this laptop as
well. I've found this so far that seems to be identical to what I'm
seeing (for non-python programs): http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread611031.html
When I attempt to run, I get "The procedure entry point

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
