VIsta Laptop not seeing Router

2 New Member
I have a 3com wireless router with a network of three pc's connected, one of them a dell laptop, all running xp, we have recently got a compaq presario laptop with Vista home premium, no matter what I try it will not see my network router although it does see other routers which are in the vicinity. The 3com website doesn't support the router with anything nowdays although I only bought it a year ago.

You don't have anything like Mac address filtering enabled on the wireless router do you?

Good question, Banfa!

Have you also tried restarting the router, pmcbrco?

Your router may not yet know the existance of this new notebook. See if that works...

I am running into a very similar problem. I recently upgraded my Toshiba laptop to Vista Business and it can no longer see either my Netgear wireless router or Belkin wireless access point (WAP). It does show other wireless networks in the area. I had absolutely no problems accessing the router and WAP from the same laptop while XP Professional was installed on it before the upgrade to VISTA.

I am using VS Express (VB and C#) under Vista Ultimate. When I installed I got msg to install updates to make VS work with Vista. I did this and turned off the msg to show that it is not compatable. At present there are all sorts of VS errors (just like VS 2002). Things like my right hand CTL key after a while turns CTL-C etc into non english characters. Close and open to get rid of. Any ideas????

Well, to start I just got Windows Vista a few months ago. It works great, but the trouble came when I decided to connect all of my computers - XP Home, XP Professional and Vista - to a home network. I have a broadband connection that connects into my wireless router, and the Vista connects, wired, through that router. My ethernet printer also connects through that router. I have 2 wireless computers, an XP Home and XP Professional, that connect...

I posted this question earlier and it seemed to explode and disappear, so I am trying again. I apologize if it ended up as a duplicate.. I set up a home network by adding a Vista Laptop to a XPHome SP2 Desktop via a D-Link Router. The XP Desktop is connected via an ethernet cable and the Vista machine is wireless. In the early days of setting it up I got access to the internet on both machines, could share files on the XP from the Vista....

I can get my vista machine to view shared files on my XP machine, but I cannot get my XP machine to access shared files on my vista machine. My LLTD protocol is updated on both machines. Both machines are running on the same workgroup. Both machines are on the same wireless router. My vista machine is all but broadcasting to the entire internet when my firewalls are turned off and all folders set to share with everyone. No matter what...

Hi, I'm having a network problem I'm hoping I can resolve (and a few questions.) Currently I have a desktop with XP Pro on it. I just purchased a laptop with Vista, and wanted to network it with the desktop. For some reason, the desktop can locate and access the laptop, but the laptop cannot locate or even see the desktop. They're both in the same work group and network, and all the sharing permissions are turned on, as far as I can tell. ...

I have a home network running wired and wireless via a D-Link DSL Modem/Router. For some time, I've been trying to overcome the problem of not being able to get any of the XP Home (SP3) machines to access my Vista HPx32 (SP1) laptop through the wire. (Though vice versa works.) I can push and pull stuff when the Vista laptop is doing the 'driving'. The XP machines all see the laptop - but when I try to push/pull any files to/from the shared...

Hi - I just bought an Asus laptop with wireless capabilities. I have a desktop that I've used for years that is hooked up to Cox cable for high speed internet through a Motorola SG5120 cable modem. The modem is ethernet / USB compatible, but it currently hooks to my desktop with a USB cable. I bought a Linksys wireless router last night and tried to install. The first problem was that I couldn't hook the USB cable from the desktop...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
