Networking XP to Vista problem.

2 New Member
I can get my vista machine to view shared files on my XP machine, but I cannot get my XP machine to access shared files on my vista machine.

My LLTD protocol is updated on both machines.
Both machines are running on the same workgroup.
Both machines are on the same wireless router.

My vista machine is all but broadcasting to the entire internet when my firewalls are turned off and all folders set to share with everyone. No matter what I do, I can't get my XP machine to find ANY files on my same network.

I'm to the point of going "Office Space" on my PC and laptop.

Can anyone help?

Hi Conchaga! Welcome to bytes.com!
Try searching on Google - it seems, Vista uses a new networking protocol called LLTD and XP doesn't know that protocol if it's not installed by update. But there are several other reasons, which you can solve with that google search.

Greetings,

I can not access vista #1 from vista #2, Even though I did make sure to share the entire drive, I can not even access the public folder. Vista 1 can not see xp #3 Vista 2 can not access Vista 1 Again, entire drive was shared. I can get to the public...

I bought a new HP computer with MS Vista Home Premium and am trying to network my old Dell Windows XP Home. I got the network working with HP's help. But HP tells me that for the network to work, I have to turn-off firewalls on both computers because it is a MS Vista issue. They seem to be right because when I turn off the firewalls, I can access folders from both computers and share printer. But when I turn-on the firewalls, neither computer...

Hi, I'm having a network problem I'm hoping I can resolve (and a few questions.) Currently I have a desktop with XP Pro on it. I just purchased a laptop with Vista, and wanted to network it with the desktop. For some reason, the desktop can locate and access the laptop, but the laptop cannot locate or even see the desktop. They're both in the same work group and network, and all the sharing permissions are turned on, as far as I can tell. ...

I have a home network running wired and wireless via a D-Link DSL Modem/Router. For some time, I've been trying to overcome the problem of not being able to get any of the XP Home (SP3) machines to access my Vista HPx32 (SP1) laptop through the wire. (Though vice versa works.) I can push and pull stuff when the Vista laptop is doing the 'driving'. The XP machines all see the laptop - but when I try to push/pull any files to/from the shared...

Hello, I am having problems with vista computers. They can' t take IP address automatically but they often work if IP is given manually. I tried many tips i found on the net, including disabling power options of the NT cards, disabling IP6 n the like. Their DHCP Client service works fine and well, everything seems to work. How can i make Vista computers accept IP address auto from a 2003 server? All other windows work fine. THANKS, SAM

In my network there are one XP-desktop, one VISTA desktop and one VISTA notebook. Whereas the XP-desktop and the VISTA desktop recognize each other, the VISTA notebook does not recognize the other computers (and is not recognized by the other two computers); as a matter of fact it does not even "see" the own computer except for the shared media. This happens since four weeks - before that the VISTA notebook did not show these problems. I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
