SATA WinXP driver for re-install

I recently purchased a second-hand laptop without any sort of recovery or system CD, that had Ubuntu Linux on it. I am looking to put Windows XP back on, however, my copy of XP Pro cannot find the hard drive - in the setup, it will claim there is no partionable media available.

Previously I have been able to use a Linux CD to format a hard drive to FAT32 or NTFS, and then do a Windows install, however, this time it does not work.

I have looked on the manufacturer's website, and they do not have drivers posted. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards a few places to look besides Google and the manufacturer's site.

It is a Fujitsu Lifebook E8020 with ~60Gb SATA hd.

Thanks,

Snake

Well, since the Windows CD hasn't changed (and this previously worked), doesn't that point to a BIOS issue? Or is it a boot sector issue on the SATA drive? Things to think about anyway. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
I have seen this come up a few times lately and am hungry for the solution, too.
Here is a previous discussion for reference, not solution.

Sorry - my mistake in not being clear.

I have been able to format other laptop harddrives as FAT32 or NTFS and have the XP cd realize it, but was unable to get it with this type of laptop - I'm thinking because it is SATA, but I'm not sure.

--------------------------------------------------------------- I would appreciate any ideas how to write to the parallel port (Mem 0x378) when runnning WinXP or Mandrake 9.2. In C and LabVIEW I use the OutP command to write to directly to a memory address. Thank you -- Todd

Hello, I'm new to using NDIS and figuring out what I can and can't do with it. A fair amount of documentation refers to structures and funcs defined in Nuiouser.h. This header seems to be available for my Win CE and pocket PC SDK's, but not for my general winxp environment on a laptop/notebook. So my question is, how do I get the same functionality for my general winxp environment? I'm not doing any device driver development, I just...

Hello folks, I have installed PgSQL8 beta4 via pginstaller to WinXP. I must tell you I am more familiar with Linux, so maybe my problem is trivial to solve: I made myself a table with PgAdmin III (I was lazy to use psql) that I tried to reach via ODBC. I created connection to my database, supplied a user, server, etc., all that was needed.

One of our clients recently upgraded their Office version to 2003. When they tried to run our program (written in Access 2000), they ended up with the wrong data. My coworker and I have tested this problem and found that it ONLY occurs on Windows XP machines running Office 2003. The problem ends up being that ONE 1-to-1 join in ONE query within the application does not perform as a 1-to-1 join. It acts as though there is no join at all....

Hello People, I get no sound at all from my system, which has an A7N8X-VM/400 motherboard. (www.asus.com) I just need basic DVD, CD, and MP3 playback, nothing fancy with TV tuners. Audio is Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio CODEC AC'97 compliant. I have downloaded the drivers from their website and installed to no avail.

I'm a developer using XP Pro for developing business apps with Visual Studio.NET and SQL Server. My current workstation is a few years old and uses a single IDE drive. I'm looking to build a new workstation. I plan to NOT install Vista and continue using XP Pro for the foreseeable future. My question: What would you recommend for the hard drive(s) on my new workstation? I ask because several years ago I saw a number of friends have...

Hello all, I'm having a "challenge" finding solution for sata driver or any solution without recompiling the kernel (Red Hat Ent. Linux 4 Upd. 3) The machine is a remote one (and that is the biggest problem), some Z intellistation as I recall (I'll try to ask somebody for the exact model), which has SATA drives which work in "compatibility" mode, as hdX, not sdX - I think it's ICH7 controller, can't check it now (if needed, I'll check it...

I have a Compaq ML530 G1 with a 5300 array controller with mirrored drives that have Server 2003 installed on them. I have recently installed a PCI SATA controller with a new SATA HDD connected, but now the system attempts to boot off the SATA drive as opposed to the mirrored SCSI HDDs. I have run the SCU to set the 5300 array controller as the boot device, but the system will continue to look at the SATA HDD. Any thoughts?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
