Hi,
I have been asked to develop an automated cash register application for use
in a typical restaurant. The catch is that it has to run on Windows. My
questions: is the python - wxPython combination mature enough to be able to
build such an app in a portable way? What about printing?
Thanks in advance,
Koen

Is there any information on building BLL middle tier
applications to run in an MSCS configuration? IOW, I am
not just interested in scalability but fault tolerence as
well but am unsure if there are design issues that must be
baked in from the beginning in order for this to work?

I just loaded VS2003 on a new machine and when I try to create a ASP.NET app
or Web Service, I get the following error:
"Visual Studio could not create or open application because your browser is
configured to use a proxy server for the local server"
In IE, there is nothing that I can see referencing any proxy and I don't
connect to the internet with a proxy. The machine is brand new, so i know
it's not some old registry setting or...

I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can learn a good programming
method for creating windows apps. I'm just starting to learn windows
programming with MSVC++ 6.0. I want to learn low level windows
programming in C first. I don't want to learn any bad habits by
hacking away at code until I get something to work.
Specifically, I'd like to learn how to set up and plan out a C windows
project and break it down into pieces of code that will...

Is C really portable? And, apologies, but this is possibly a little OT?
In c.l.c we often see 'not portable' comments, but I wonder just how
portable C apps really are.
I don't write portable C code - *not only* because, in a 'C sense', I

The portable versions of Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird for use with
USB drives seems like a great idea and one I could make a helluva lot of
use of at work - but before I drive down that particular road, does
anyone know how good / bad / indifferent the implementation of
Javascript is on these apps?
For anyone else who might find them interesting, by the way, they are
all found at the site http://portableapps.com/

Hi Group,
I want to get into writing portable apps that can run solely off a USB
stick, but I have a few problems.
I'm originally a java/.net developer, but I don't want it to be a
requirement that the host computer has .net or a jre installed. I also
am not very fond of developing with VC++ *cry*.
Also done some perl, so I checked out ruby, python, python.... hey

I don't know if this is the right thread or not, but...
In my endless pursuit to hold on to my dinosaur laptop (Dell 1100
Inspiron - circa 2004)...I want to keep as much space free for my
programs to run. The problem is that as new software comes out, they
seem to take up more and more space on the HD.
I use most of the PortableApps.com programs from my usb with great
success and ease.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
