Undesired text wrapping when sending email from VB

5 New Member
Last week, I found some code on-line that allows me to send email via SMTP from my VB 6.0 application. I had to add the Winsock control to the project and add the code that performs the SendData requests and waits for the appropriate replies. The sending of the email seems to be working fine. But I am getting weird text wrapping within my first paragraph. I'm not sure why.

For the text of the e-mail, I am using a String variable. I build it up dynamically, based on certain things that I want to insert into the e-mail, such as the name of a file and some simple identifier numbers from our app. I have a first paragaph, then I append a couple of control / line feed characters to the string, followed by the second paragraph. All of this is one String variable and then I send that as the text of the e-mail.

When the e-mail is sent, the text is wrapping in the first paragraph at places I do not expect, not naturally. The first paragraph has two sentences and around 250 characters. The second paragraph, which has two sentences and around 150 characters, wraps naturally, as you would expect. Any ideas what might be wrong or how I can trouble-shoot?

Greetings and welcome, davidcm!

I hate to do this to you, but I was hoping you could add your code. Helps better get a handle on what you hope to achieve. How's that for a deal?

Yeah, I'd have to agree.

Question, though - are you sure that the wrapping hasn't happened in the string, before sending it to e-mail?

I hope to add support for multi-byte encoded and bidirectional text to my curses-based UI library: http://excess.org/urwid/ I would like to support whatever encoding the user likes. Are there functions for: - querying the preferred encoding - splitting encoded strings into characters based on an encoding - determining the direction (L to R, R to L) of each character - determining the number of columns used by each character when...

Hello. First, with AJAX I will get a remote web page into a string. Thus, a string will contain HTML tags and such. I will need to extract text from one <span> for which I know the ID the inner text. Is it possible to access in this way "string variable".getElementByID() somehow? Thank you.

I know there's a request for a good IDE at least once a week on the ng, but hopefully this question is a little different. I'm looking for suggestions for a good cross-platform text editor (which the features for coding, such as syntax highlighting, etc.) but not a full IDE with all the fancy jazz (GUI developer, UML diagrams, etc.). Ideally, it would be something I could even put on a flash drive and move from computer to computer, but...

Hi Searching for a possibility to display some text with preserved white space and line breaks, but with long lines being wrapped, I found this CSS declaration, which I found helpful: pre { white-space: pre-wrap; /* css-3 */ white-space: -moz-pre-wrap; /* Mozilla, since 1999 */ white-space: -pre-wrap; /* Opera 4-6 */

I'm trying to use PHP to wrap the output of an HTML form before it goes into a precompiled C cgi script. Essentially, the company that I work for uses a purchased precompiled c program for their shopping cart. This C program stores order information, and when an order is processed and approved, records the transaction and sends a template email to the customer with an invoice describing their purchase. Since we're going to be selling a...

Hi all. I'm having a problem with a postback issue and I think it's cache related. Here's my setup: I have a web site that has a signup section. This has simple things like name, age, birth date, etc. When the user visits this page for the first time, a person's data object that is used to store the user's name, age, birth date, etc. is created and stored in session. On the first visit to this page, the object is empty. Whenever the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
