Forbiden (403) using Winsock & VB6

Hello,
No answer from "comp.lang.basi c.visual.misc", so i try to post here...:

Using WINSOCK to acces the Web, in Visual basic 6 application, most of the
time it is working fine, but with some URL's, i got 'ERROR 403 forbiden to
access.....".
These URL are displayed correctly with IE6 and "Firefox 1.5" (for example:
http://www.mozilla.org/ ).

Any idea ??
Many thanks for any answer....

They are most likely checking the referrer header.
Use fiddler or ethereal to see what is being sent, try sending it as
well and see if it works.

Hi, Textually from the highlights of python 2.4: "Assigning to None - the compiler now treats assigning to None as a SyntaxError." I think in general assignments to built-in types, functions, and variables should be also forbiden. It's a common mistake to do things like this:

Hi all, I have a problem with downloading files by using WebClient wc = new WebClient(); wc.DownloadFile("http://some_url.com/some_file.gif", "some_file.gif"); This returns the error 403 from the server but I can access this files from Internet Explorer without any problems. To further complicate matters this error shows only up at work but works on my home PC.

This problem has been driving me mad for months.... Seen a few posts on forums about it but no answers... No mention on MSDN etc. XP Pro SP1, VS.NET (c#) .Net framework 1.1, IIS 5.1. In a nutshell when testing my ASP.NET (localhost) apps images randomly don't load on the page. Examining the IIS logfile shows the missing images give 401 or 403 errors. Here's an example - 10:15:47 127.0.0.1 GET...

I'm having a tough time getting System.Net.Sockets to work with a server that's based around Winsock 6.0. For many reasons I can't write a new server because the server handles a number of client formats. I'm writing a new client that should be able to connect to the Winsock-based server. However, I can't get them to talk to each other. The server hears and understands what System.Net.Sockets is saying, but when it tries to respond...

I have a web service (#1) that contacts another web service (#2) that requires a digital certificate for access. When#1 calls #2, I'm getting a HTTP 403 error: Access Forbidden. There are a few other posts on the subject in this newsgroup but none provide the information I need. When I use a console application that runs on the same server as #1 to contact #2, I don't have a problem. I've tried a few options that have not worked: 1)...

When I create a new web project and upload it to a sub directory of www directory on my hosting service server, 403.1 error occurs. I e- mailed the adnimistrator once and he manually set 'script only' to the subdirectory then. But you know, as a learner, I create and test web projects often and I can bother the administrator each time. I searched this news group for a sollution but all I found was that I have to change the directory...

I have finally managed to get Apache 2.2.4, PHP 5.2.0 and MySQL to talk to each other. Everything seems to work OK when dealing with databases but as soon as I use a php-script that use $_server the browser will throw me away and give me HTTP 403. It has worked before but that was before I got the communication to work with MySQL Any ideas or solutions are very much appreciated.

I am using a webservice client that was created from a WSDL file in .Net 1.1. The client ALWAYS works the first time I call it. The second call returns one of two exceptions. It either returns the error: A) The connection has been closed on a receive : Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Hello, I am currently working on a project that has me in sort of a bind. What I want to do is retrieve web pages from the internet, and strip them down to just text. I'll get using Regular Expressions to strip out the HTML code itself, the problem is actually getting the web pages from the internet. I tried using the Microsoft Internet Transfer Control but my client was experiencing problems with some web pages not downloading, this...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
