VB intro book for programmers sought

Could someone please recommend a good introductory book to Visual
Basic written for programmers who have had little or no exposure to
Windows? I am a C++ programmer and have only worked on Unix/Linux so
far, so I understand very little about DLL's, COM, ActiveX, etc, but I
don't need to have elementary programming concepts explained.
Thanks,

Marco

The best book i ever bought , is programming Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
from Francesco Balena ( MS PRESS )
this book covers everything , and i still use it as a reference all
previous bought books were wasted money

look here for a peek

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

Francesco also wrote a VB.NET book ( same size as the VB 6 version ) wich
i also own, again this book is superb to all others and again usable as a
reference guide

In my native language we have a saying that covers it all

translated :
<
if you do hear the bell ringing , but but you do not know how

Then these books are for you ( these books are for persons who do have some
programming knowledge, but need to get pointed in the right direction )
hope this helps :-)

A series of programming books I found very useful in Java and Visual
Basic.NET is

The Complete Reference
Visual Basic.NET

author: Jeffrey R. Shapiro
made by Osborne and McGraw Hill

They also give you free code online so you don't have to type in the
examples in the book to experiment with them. Particularly, if you're also
learning Java, this sereies for Java2 is EXTREMELY useful.

Hello, I have been programming with Visual Basic and PHP in the last 5 years and some folks had recommended Python a free language.... I had looked for a Python book to start up but found many titles... so, my question finally is: what book could be for a Python beginner - but NOT a programming beginner - which intends to develop *windowed* Python programms and intends to develop for Windows and for Linux? for example, look at Thuban...

I'm looking for a good intro to python book. I'm very familiar with programming, but know nothing of OOP or systems (OS type) programming. All of my programming experience is in number crunching and generic graphics engines (read: gobs and gobs of matrix manipulations and super-efficient sorts), all of it in C. I've written exactly one program in Python. So, I need something that covers the finer points of Python - difference...

I am proud to announce the immediate availability of "Programming Visual Basic 2005," published by O'Reilly Media (ISBN 0-596-00949-6). This book is targeted directly at the VB6 programmer who is interested in moving to .NET, and who wants immediate productivity without hype and without wasting time. This is *not* your average programming book, and frankly, it is not like any book I've written before. My goal was to meet the needs of a...

Ever since I started tinkering around the GTK+ and later on Gtkmm toolkits, I've noticed a steady flow of programmers talking more and more, and more passionately, about these toolkits. It came as a blessing when "Sams Teach Yourself GTK+ Programming in 21 Days" was put on the bookstores' shelves in the year 2000. I remember having to line up at the teller and noticing that two out of five people had this book in their baskets or under...

Buffer overflows are a fact of life, and, more specifically, a fact of C. All is not lost however. In the book "Value Range Analysis of C programs" Axel Simon tries to establish a theoretical framework for analyzing C programs. In contrast to other books where the actual technical difficulties are "abstracted away", this books tries to analyze real C programs taking into account pointers, stack frames, etc.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
