Obtaining Windows' Version Information... OK... but can I do it remotely?

Hi,
I'm probably asking for the moon, but I was wondering if it were
possible to return the OS version information from a *remote* computer
on a network. I can get all the hostnames, their IP addresses and the
MAC addresses bound to that IP address no problem. What I would
*really* like is to be able to query the remote registry or whatever
for the Windows version, so if it's something like Win2000 and any SP
below 3, I can update to it... or is that a totally Active Directory
thing?
Thanks!
Pieter

//crossposted to: comp.lang.javascript, alt.comp.lang.javascript in an effort to get factual answers from JavaScript experts// Simply put; Is it possible to obtain the real (actual) IP address of someone (client) that visits a web site through an anonymous proxy if this person ONLY has JavaScript enabled in their browser? This is NOT a question about PHP, perl, VBScript, Java(.class), or ActiveX. Let us _only_ deal with JavaScript for...

I am trying to find a way to compare the version of the currently executing assembly to the version of my latest upload so I can notify the user when a newer version is available. Is it possible to get the version information programmatically for an exe file in some folder on my web site or alternatively to retrieve the version information from information appearing on a web page on my web site? Thanks,

I have read approximately 30 articles now on various methods to make your vb.net application automatically update itself and I can't see how they apply to a vb.net windows services projects. The goal of the project is to write a windows service in vb.net that runs on many workstations that can automatically update itself from a central web server or share (either or doesn’t matter). I do not want the service to re-install itself each time...

My employer is starting to take the first steps towards migrating its Classic ASP codebase to ASP.NET v2.0. We have a copy of our existing website on the new Windows Server 2003 R2 test server, and everything is running fine. However, when I create a simple "HelloWorld.aspx" file, then browse to the page from VS.NET 2005 on the same machine, I get the following error message: ================================================ Server...

Hello, Please read this all before giving an answer :) I'm doing some troubleshooting on a web application that my company wrote. It's written in asp.net 1.1. The error that the Event viewer gives is: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.

Hi, not sure if this is the right place for this but it was definitely the closest I could find. I am having trouble with the GetFileVersionInformation/VerQueryValue functions and was wondering if anyone could help. All I am trying to do is obtain a string representation of a Version Info value for a given file. Currently, I am only getting strange unicode characters, so not sure if my problem is in the understanding of the functions...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
