serail port help

Has anybody messed around with Sax.NET communication classes included
with VB.NET Resource Kit? I can't get the Device Chat example to
communicate with my device. The application builds with no warning and
errors, runs with no serial port errors/exceptions and I've checked the
serial cable itself. I used Hyper Terminal with success to communicate
with my device so I can rule out the cable, serial port on the computer
and my device. I've double, triple checked all the settings; baud rate,
data bits, parity checking and flow control. The SAX documentation is
weak and in some instances and the example code doesn't follow with the
Methods documented (example: "Your First Serial Port Program" and the
Write Method).

Any help or suggestions to use something else is appreciated. Right now
I'm investigating other ways of serial port communication. KB 823179 is
one of them.
