I need help connecting vb-sql

Hi,
I am a beginner in programming
can somebody please direct me to some resources that can help me learn
connecting a desktop application. For example when your running a setup of a
programme it connects to the next part of the setup. I want something like
that so I can connect my application through vb.net - sql
