new vb2005 apps wont load/initialize after upgrading hardware - he

Hello,

I just upgraded the motherboard and cpu on my computer (core2Duo). I also
imaged the contents of my old harddrive to a new one(500g) - Windows XP sp2
(version2002). Everything appears fine, VS6 runs fine, VS2003 runs fine,
but VS2005 won't load new projects. I can load old projects or if I create a
project in VB2003 and then upgrade it to VB2005 then the project will load.
But I can't run VB2005 apps I created from the workplace on this computer,
and if I create a new project - it won't load or even initialize.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or do I need to get another
harddrive and just re-install windows XP from scratch?

Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Hello again,

So I re-installed VS2005, but that did not help. One other thing I tried
was to add one of my new projects to a project (an older project) that would
open/load. I make a reference to the new project from the old project, and
now I can open a form from the new project.

How come I can't open the new project by itself? Is it a registry thing?

Ok, first things first: I'm a VB classic programmer and am considering upgrading now that I've seen VB2005. .NET1 & 1.5 never seemed to appeal to me, but now I'm considering the 2005. Does anyone have any comments on it from what you've experianced in the downloadable demo? Thanks -Wes

I am thinking of getting VB2005 to replace my VB2003 but don't like the idea of having two files for one form (I have enough files on my computer as it is). Is there any way to have VB2005 act like VB2003 and keep the form in one .vb file? -- Dennis in Houston

I am quietly going insane on this project. I've never worked on a project like this one before. All my previous sticky forms were for data entry, not editing. I don't know how to display the form with data from the database, allow the user to update it, and then display the form again with POST data. I can get the data out of the database and get the user updates back into the database, but how do I get the filled-out form back to the user...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
