I'm migrating/rewriting one of my VB6 apps to VB2005.
In the process, I'm trying to avoid using third party activex controls
used in the VB6 project.
One of the third party controls in the VB6 app was for menu/toolbars.
This control had an option to render the toolbar in an Office 2003
style which is nothing more than a top to bottom gradient.
When a new ToolStrip is added to a form, the default appearance of the
Toolstrip is that of...

Hello,
I created a real simple "hello world!" app in vb2005. I also created a
setup app for this app, and it installed on my workstation no problem. Then
I uninstalled the app, and instead published it to my webserver on a win2003
server using the publisher wizard. The publishing went OK, and publish.htm
came up. I click on the Install button, I get the connecting dialog window,
then I get a message that says publisher is unknown do...

the vb.upgrade group is dead. I think I will post this here instead.
Hi,
I ran the Upgrade Wizard to upgrade my VB6 project to VB2005 Express
Edition.
I got 140 errors and 170 warnings.
One of the error was that it wouldn't load a VB6 control.

I have an app using a VB6 ActiveX.dll which I also have made as an exe. Both
the dll and exe have exactly the same code and start in Sub Main. There is
no form involved.
I start this activex as a Process like so:
Dim NewProcess As Process = New Process
Then I use one of these:

Greetings,
I have to load 30,000 unique names into a combox. Filling a dataTable takes
only a few milliseconds. But populating the combobox and displaying the list
takes several seconds - way too long. A user selects a name from the
combobox and runs a query.
Originally, this combox was on a form in an MS Access ADP which was linked
directly to our sql server. The combobox populated withins millisecnods.
How can I achieve this...

I wanted to add a toggle button to a VB2005 form to be used for a
simple Windows Application (i.e. compiled to a "*.exe"), so I added
the ActiveX Microsoft Forms Object toggle button, however I can't get
this button does work properly. The documentation I found in the
FM20.CHM files says the button state can be determined from its
"Value" property, but the property list shown in VB2005 does not have
a "Value" property. How is the button...

Hello,
I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional. I have been deploying VB2005 apps
using "Click Once" which works great and will add .Net 2.0 framework where
needed and adds all prerequisite files, the Report viewer for printing, com
references, ... Everything works great! on our intranet.
But now I need to add an app to a machine (XP pro) that is not on our
intranet. So I need to create a setup/deploy project. My VS2005 does not...

We've got a VB2005 program written some time back that we're trying to
do some maintenance on still from within VB2005 but now running on a
Vista Business PC (which I think may be relevant to the problem).
When we go to start up the project from within the VS environment
there are several build errors relating to an inability to find the
ADOX library. I can't remember without hours of reorientation and
checking back whether this was a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
