when you guys have a solution for _ALL_ of those scenarios is when I stop

when you guys have a solution for _ALL_ of those scenarios is when I
stop

VB 2005 doesn't support code reuse or portability

I want to know what I am supposed to do.. am I really still supposed
to cart around _TWO_ ide so that I can write VB6 scripts and test
them; and then rewrite them into VbScript?

and then I can take my VbScript code and paste it into Vb 2005 and
REWRITE IT _AGAIN_

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

I agree Susie, it is time to make a stand.

I urge Microsoft to undo these past 5 years and start taking VB
seriously again.

for starters, name the next version 'B #' as in BEE SHARP.
and bring back VB COM

The solution is for you to get over what you can't change and move on,
Aaron. I feel quite sorry for you.

I don't need to move on.

My VB6 still works in 4 times as many places as your stupid visual
fred

and I don't need to 'program' in order to be entirely successful.

I'll keep with my database stuff and move all my clients to mySql /
PHP

what I need to do is go and be a computer science professor so that I
can warn these kids to not trust Microsoft, they killed a language.
I'm not talking about _DAMAGING_ a language-- I am talking about
killing a language.

I don't agree with that. Anyway, wait a couple of years, and you'll be
*really* screwed, when it doesn't run on whatever comes after Vista.

The same could be said of Warren Buffett. But he's good at *something*.

Good luck with that.

I don't care if they do. I'll adapt and continue being successful at making

yeah but when you need to give them a $50,000 quote to make their apps
work in .NET?

it's just not practical

Susie / Aaron / Tom

thank you for standing up for what is right.

I think that you should be Sr Management at Microsoft

I know I'm not scared of a couple of 4-letter words and some capital
letters

Has anyone else noticed this problem? I converted the back-end to A2000 and the performance problem was fixed. We supply a 97 and 2000 version of our software so we kept the backend in A97 to make upgrading simple for users. We've done it like that for years but a new client has been having severe performance issues... solved by converting the backend to 2000. -- regards, Bradley

My company has a product in beta which uses Postgres 7.4.3. We expect to have a code freeze for our 1.0 product in March 2005. I'd really like to use Postgres 8.x in our 1.0 product. We're especially looking forward to the background writer and tablespaces. Is the 8.0 release date known? Suppose 8.0 is released in December or January. Is it a sane thing to put 8.0 in a shipping product within the first two months of its release? I...

In VS .NET 2003 (SP1) I wanted to add a preprocessor symbol to all configurations of all projects in a solution. I selected all the projects and then went to Properties, where I went to the preprocessor symbols edit box. Nothing was in there, presumably because no symbols are common to all selections, which is as expected. However, when I added the new symbol I found that _all_ other symbols, such as _WINDOWS etc. had been deleted from all...

Guys, I've been experiencing a weird problem. I am developing a web service in pretty much the same way I do develop other types of application using C#.net (2.0). The problem is that when I run the application from Visual Studio the code that is presented to me is different than the actual code. It takes some cumbersome actions to get it to work: a) "clean" the solution, rebuild it and then run b) close and open VS again

Hello, I hope this doesn't come across as totally newbieish, but I've been searching the web and the IBM docs until smoke is coming out of my head. Scenario: We are trying to take primitive "snapshots" of our production database into a test environment by taking (what we thought are) offline backups of production, then doing a redirected restore into test. Here's the steps I do:

Hi all, I'm writing some code that monitors a directory for the appearance of files from a workflow. When those files appear I write a command file to a device that tells the device how to process the file. The appearance of the command file triggers the device to grab the original file. My problem is I don't want to write the command file to the device until the original file from the workflow has been copied completely. Since these...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
