Bob needs help stopping controls overlapping

Hello,

I have a selection of button controls that a user can drag and drop
around a form. I need to find a way to stop these controls overlapping
one another - very similar to how windows desktop works.

I know I could use the math to work this out.....

does anyone have any code for this or perhaps know a better way?

Thanks

Bob

I am writing a "find-free-time" function for a calendar. There are a lot of time spans with start end times, some overlapping, some not. To find the free time spans, I first need to convert the events into a list of non overlapping time spans "meta-spans". This nice ascii graph should show what I mean. 1) --- 2) ---

Hello, Back in the Access 97 days, if I had two texboxes on a form or report that overlapped, and I selected both and did a Format, Align, Top from the menu in design view, the controls would align such that the top edge of one control would align with the bottom edge of the other and they would no longer overlap. I liked this behavior. Now, in Access 2003, performing the same actions in a similar situation causes the top edges of the...

I'm busy with overlapping controls, like the ASP net menu shown underneat the listbox control etc.. Absolute position is what i use in this case, no issue to me now. I found a menu on the following website: http://mguessan.free.fr/html/menu.html The items are being shown OVER a select control (MSIE problem)

Hi, In VB6 and earlier if the form size was expanded by the user or maximized there had to be specific code to handle controls on the form to scale with with it. In VB.net I recall in one of the MSDN videos seeing that Windows forms have a property that auto scale controls within the form. The problem is I don't see it and the ones I try don't work.

I'm using Windows Media Audio, via a WAX file, and I have some custom controls to start and stop the audio. While it works in IE, FF gives an error. The HTML looks like this: <object id='obj' type='audio/x-ms-wax' style='position:absolute; left:0px; top:0px;' classid='CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95' codeBase='http://activex... blah width='100' height='100'> <param name='FileName' value='wma_sample.wax'>

I have a form with 2 custom controls that can be dragged around by a user. How can I check if they overlap each other without performing some kind of Collision detection on them? Is there anything in GDI to check for overlapping controls?

Hi - I'd like to center two overlapping controls (i.e., have it so that the centers of the two controls are aligned vertically, horizontally or both). The Fomat:Align menu item doesn't support this. Any good solutions, or do I break out my calculator and do it manually? Access 2002 if it makes a difference. Thanks

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
