Keeping track of threads

I am starting a thread in the usual way as follows:

Sub StartThread (ByVal CameraName as String)

Dim t As New Thread(AddressO f Frm1.GetPicture )
t.Name = "GetPicture " & CameraName
t.Start()

End Sub

This will be called at anytime and will be called many times. So I end up
with a number of threads running with the name of the order
GetPictureCamer a1, GetPictureCamer a2 etc.

Before starting the thread I have to be sure that the thread of the same
name isn't already running and this is where my problem is.

I can't do the usual threadstate because the reference t is only valid in
this routine whilst it starts.

I really want to be able to do:

Public t(n) As New Thread(AddressO f Frm1.GetPicture )

and then I could always have a global reference to t. But I can't do this.

So my question is, how do I keep track (other than a collection which
seems to often get out of step with reality) of all the threads in my
application?

I've tried System.Diagnost ics and also Process.GetProc ess but the only
reference I seem to have is the Name, which is not available in these
classes.

Thanks

-Jerry

Hi All I've noticed on quite a few ASP sites that when they have a 'MyAccount' section they transfer the site to https and then when you have logged into your account successfully and gone back to the majority of the site you move back to http whilst still being logged in. I've used the Session var method before to check if a user can have access to pages, but how on earth can I keep a handle on this when I flip the user between my...

Just looking for suggestion on how to do this in my Web application. The goal is to keep track of what a user has and hasn't read and present him or her with new material I am currently doing this by aggregating new content from all databases into a single indexed database and then saving a timestamp in the account database (for the current user) that tells me when the user last read items in the aggregated database.

I'm writing some software that opens multiple instances of a single class in new threads. I need a way of keeping track of all these class instances in some kind of collection. I'm basicaly writing an MSN Messenger like application. The threads being, in this case, the chat windows. I would like to be able to access the various referances in a similar way to the following if it can be done... convoThreads.someFunctionInTheClass(); Has...

I'm testing the waters of n-tier development and I ran into a scenario that I'm not sure what the best solution would be. I have a Company object which contains a collection of contacts retrieved from a database. In the presentation layer, the user will be able to add/delete/modify this collection in which case it needs to be synced with the database. The question is basically how best to do this? Aside from overriding the add/remove...

I know we have access to log files and web statistics can be pulled from those. But the guy who wants it built was thinking we should keep track of every time a page is hit seperately in MS sql server. He's thinking it would be better for clients to be able to tell how many page hits we're getting whenever they want - mainly concerned with advertising banners (how many views they are getting). I'm concerned about hitting the database for...

I need to create threads and monitor their status via Name = RowID. I thought a hashtable of threads would do it, but I cannot get it to work. Does anyone know of an article or code snippet I could look at? Thanks

I'm actually taking Microsoft's 2779 and just finished a lab where we kept track of our changes to the database. However, I'm not happy with the scripts interface because it does not tell me the chronological order of my changes to the database. Could someone share with me their technique for keeping track of database changes? I'm actually thinking a set of tables would be best, because sometimes

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
