Hi,
i've got a small problem with my python-script. It is a cgi-script, which is
called regulary (e.g. every 5 minutes) and returns a xml-data-structure.
This script calls a very slow function, with a duration of 10-40 seconds. To
avoid delays, i inserted a cache for the data. So, if the script is called,
it returns the last caculated data-structure and then the function is called
again and the new data is stored in the cache. (There is no...

I feel like the answer to this should be blinding obvious. I also
feel like it's probably an exercise in an undergraduate database
design course. I'm off to google for an answer, but I figure I'd
throw it out here to see if there's a quick and dirty solution.
I have in my database a table of every position we have here called
Holdings. It would be equivalent to an Inventory table in every
basic design course.
There are many users...

I'm testing the waters of n-tier development and I ran into a scenario that
I'm not sure what the best solution would be. I have a Company object which
contains a collection of contacts retrieved from a database.
In the presentation layer, the user will be able to add/delete/modify this
collection in which case it needs to be synced with the database.
The question is basically how best to do this? Aside from overriding the
add/remove...

I need to create threads and monitor their status via Name = RowID. I
thought a hashtable of threads would do it, but I cannot get it to work.
Does anyone know of an article or code snippet I could look at?
Thanks

Hi,
I have a .NET class which uses the .NET threadpool (using QueueUserWorkItem)
to create about 8 threads, which do some work while the parent thread waits
for them all to complete, which works fine when referenced from a normal EXE.
When I reference this DLL in a webservice however, the threads seem to be
created one by one in order, rather than at the same time - it is as if there
is only one available thread in the ThreadPool and the...

I'm actually taking Microsoft's 2779 and just finished a lab where we
kept track of our changes to the database.
However, I'm not happy with the scripts interface because it does not
tell me the chronological order of my changes to the database.
Could someone share with me their technique for keeping track of
database changes?
I'm actually thinking a set of tables would be best, because sometimes

Hi, I'm using VS2005 and .net 2.0. I'm creating an application that has 3
forms. I want allow users to move forward and backward with the forms and
retain the data users have entered. I thought I'll make the inactive forms
invisible but this is creating a memory corruption problem when user close
the form2 or form3 and not the formMain.
My main form has a Next button which makes the main form invisible and
starts a new form which I'll...

Hello,
I'm facing a big logical problem while writing a parser in VC++ using C.
I have to parse a file in a chunk of bytes in a round robin fashion.
Means, when I select a file, the parser will read first 512kb(IBUFFSIZE) of data, then move to next file and parse the same way. This way I can parse a number of file spreaded over different directory uniformly.
I'm keeping a meta data in a file where I'm keeping the track of file parse...

I'm confused trying to understand your requirements too. "run a class?"
Threads execute code, it's easier to think of them as *functions* that are
executed at the same time (or almost).
So you have a function A that runs first, and creates a second thread that
will execute function B. Then A will wait for B to finish. What do you
want to do in A while it's...

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
