CLID from 56k-flex modem?

Anyone know how I would go about getting a CLID (Callers telephone number)
from a normal 56k-flex modem (and if possible... without answering it using
the modem) ?

I answered my own question so thought I'd share incase anyone is interested.

Getting the number of someone calling you via a modem when you have CallerID
on the telephone line is quite easy as I understand it (still not tested as
Im waiting for CLID to activate on my phoneline).

Open a serial connection on the modems com-port & send the hayes command
"AT" (Attention)... to which you modem should respond "OK".... then leave
the connection idle.

The modem should send "RING" everytime it senses the telephone ring... if
you have CLID on your line then you should see "RING 0123456789" (where
0123456789) is the telephone number.

Hope this helps someone...

Hey Recently, I researched using C++ for game programming and here is what I found: C++ game developers spend a lot of their time debugging corrupted memory. Few, if any, compilers offer completely safe modes. Unsurprisingly, there is a very high failure rate among projects using C++ for modern game development.

Folks, Hi, I have never posted to a language group before so please excuse me if this is inappropriate. I have posted this to comp.unix.solaris (well, I am one of the folks on the thread at least)...the subject is "4 GB hard constraint on a Solaris 8 server". I figured I'd post over here because we aren't getting anywhere too fast over there, and I think it is a code issue. We have a piece of software that we purchased. It is a...

Do i go ahead using frames? I've heard in the past that frames were not supported in some browsers & its not a good idea to use them. I suppose there are two sides to this & this would be a top with certain disputes. But in ASP.NET & teh new trends, should i use Frames? Also, can a frame be center aligned in the browser?

I have a an Ajax post sent to a php script on the server...the script returns a response indicating that the _POST array wasn't set. When I look at firebug, my headers appear to be ok, and the HTTP_POST appears intact and doesn't appear out of sorts. And the response from the PHP script is that of $_POST not being set. function reqCocktailDetails(clid, cktlid) { try { var url = "http://<URL HERE>/process_xhr.php";

We just converted a database from MySQL 4.1.20 to 5.0 so we can create a view that we may query against. We'd like to use a previous MS Access Query (i.e. MS SQL) to create the View, but are running into syntax errors. I think we've discovered that IIF statements become IF statements, but there are other issues as well. Here is the Access Query. I believe that we also have a problem in the area of "InStr" where we are searching for the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
