Setting user password in Active Directory

Hello all,
I have written an application in Visual Basic .Net 2003 which allows
staff members to enable user accounts within a specific group in our
Active Directory. However, as an added piece I would like to set a new
password for the accounts as they are enabled. How can I do this in VB?
Please also consider the fact that I do not know what the password was
previously set to.

Thomas,

Your question is in the part where I am not directly interested in, you
explained to me why you wanted to use it and this seems very legal.

However, if you write it as you do, than it can give the idea that you want
some help with hacking. Therefore I would in your case tell the reason why
you want to do it.

If you ask this in one of the security newsgroups, (with telling what is
your intention with this), than I give you a much better change on an
answer.

I hope this helps,

Cor

I doubt that this is possible.

Hi people, Does anyone have some idea how to get the password of an active directory user? I tried using the DirectorySearcher object to find the user and the DirectoryEntry.Password property to get the value, but always returns "null" and I'm totally sure that the password is not null thanks

I'm trying to set a users password from a .net web application but get an Access Denied. I can set the other properties of the user so I'm confident that the general security is right. Does anyone know what could be going wrong - even suggestions about active directory would help.

TheNewUser.Invoke("SetPassword", New Object() {"123"}) Does anyone have any idea why that call wouldn't work, even though I have supplied credentials which are fully capable of setting and changing a password manually? (through an administrative acct) In the program I just get done making a user and modifying its properties (which works great) and then I commit changes. I then try to set the password. An exception is thrown, and says the...

Hi, I'm using PHP 4.4.4 on Apache 2 on Fedora Core 5. PHP was installed using Apache's apxs and the php library was installed to /usr/local/php. However, when I set my "error_reporting" setting to be "E_ALL", notices are still not getting reported. The perms on my file are 664, with owner root and group root. The php.ini file is located at /usr/local/lib/php/php.ini. Any ideas why the setting does not seem to be having an effect? ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
