setup file problem

EMW
Hi,

When I have created an setup project for my program, it generates a setup
file and a MSI file.
Since the users of my program all have winXP, I only distribute the MSI
file.

What I want is that the user only have to doubleclick on the msi file to
install the program.
This is no problem the first time, but a second, after some changes, the
user has to go to the 'add software' window to remove the old version before
he can install de new one.

Isn't it possible to have it just overwrite the previous version?
How do I make the MSI file aware of this?

Eric

:I Created a Pocket PC application for iPAQ 5450. Every thing went fine even installer creation. I could run the setup and install it into the actual device and worked fine. The application enables syncronization with remote database using merge replication. I found contradictory results while installing the application. I will mention here all the steps that I done while creating and installing setups. Result: Case 1: worked fine. ...

I have a C++ COM Addin I wrote for Outlook (2002) using VS.Net 2002. Having completed it, I am now looking to create a setup project and install it on another machine. I created a setup project and added it to my solution (selecting the "Primary Output" as the files to include from my project). However, when I attempt to build the setup project (assuming a clean output directory), I get "Unrecoverable build error" - and NO other...

When I build a setup project, the dependency in the setup project is tied to the version in which it was built. Is there a way to build a setup project that can be used in both versions of the Framework? There is provision to build the app's .exe so that the .exe can be used in either version of the framework, is there not a way to do this for the setup project? I looked at the options, did not find any. Did I miss something? --

VB.net 2003 standard, XP windows home edition. Installed first application OK today. When I removed the application via Control Panel, there were no problems and the app folders were deleted. But when I installed the app from a CD-ROM (Release folder is in D:), when I remove the app in Control Panel these problems occur: Control Panel does not delete the application folders. When I try to delete them I get message "Cannot delete file:...

I have an app that includes media files (graphics) and those included in the msi setup. They are not 100% necessary and can change. The problem is if I delete one of them, then the next time I run my app, it launches windows installer ---I assume trying to correct the problem. What should I do in my setup to prevent this? Thanks,

I have setup a Web Setup Project to my Solution by going to Add New Project => Setup and Deployment => Web Setup Project. Everything builds correctly and I get a working Setup.exe and .msi file. The install process runs exactly as expected and all of my files are placed into whatever directory I specified. Then I open IE, point it to my new website and get this error: "Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the...

Hello All, This is annoying. I am trying to build scipy right now but every .so file requires my adding "-lpython2.5 -lpthread -lm -lutil -ldl -shared" to the ld flags. Main Question: When building with "setup.py", where can I include this information so I don't have to link every .so file by hand? Also, why would this not be caught by the developers of scipy and numpy?

My C# code is I18N'ed by appropriately naming and editing .resx files. At execution time, it works. My C++ code is somewhat I18N'ed. When I put UI code in C++ I use .rc files. When I link to a third party's DLLs I get what they supplied. When I link to Microsoft's CRT and MFC, um... Well anyway, at execution time it seems to be working, except when a third party's DLL has a secret dependency. But what about the installer? A Visual...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
