Finding & entering text into another application's edit box

If I wanted a VB application to find the edit box of another, external
application, and enter text into this edit box, how would I go about
doing this?

How do I get the handle for a specific edit box in another application?
Also, is it possible for a VB.NET applicatin to find and click on a
button in another application?

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

No one responded to my question because:
(please check all that apply)

[ ] A. It is a very difficult question, and no-one knows the answer
[ ] B. It was a rediculously simple FAQ that I missed while RTFM.
[ ] C. It is a long and complex question to answer, no one had time.
[ ] D. No one saw it before it dropped off the front page
[ ] E. We all hate you and think your ugly. Besides, you smell.

Must be E. Then: you all hate me and think I'm ugly ;^).

One last (I promise!) bump just in case someone is online today that
can point me in the right direction.

If the other external application is your own VB app then try:
http://vbaccelerator.com/home/NET/Co...on/article.asp

If you did not code the other app then in VB6 we use to use:
EnumWindows and EnumChildWindow s API

Sorry I do not have any VB.Net examples for you.

Thanks for the info!

I did not write the other external application, and don't have access
to the source code. I just have the VB.Net program I'm currently
writing-- but this is still helpful, thank you. =^)

I'm writing an application using VB 6.0 as the front-end GUI, and the MSDE version of SQL Server as the back-end (it's a program for a really small # of users --- less then 3-4). I'm trying to determine, through the Visual Basic interface, the permissions of each user that's using the application on his/her machine. For example, let's say I'm user "Michael" that's sitting down at my machine using the app. I've written. The security...

I am trying to find nodes in an xml document using the XmlDocument class and having some problems. Everything seems to work OK when there are no encoded characters (< = <) but when I try to navigate a document in which the outer nodes are not encoded but the nested nodes are encoded, I can't find any of the encoded nodes using the XmlDocument selectNodes method. Is there a simple way to handle this situation? Please advise. Thanks for...

In VB 6, the Form_QueryUnload event had an UnloadMode parameter that let me find out *why* a form is unloading, and then conditionally cancel the event. In VB.NET, the Closing event passes a CancelEventArgs that lets me cancel the Close() operation, but is there still any way to find out *why* a form is closing? This app as a form that needs to be loaded at startup, closed only at shutdown, and then Show() / Hide() for the user. If...

While writing this plea for help, I think I solved my dilemma, but I don't know why the statement that solved the problem is necessary. The inspiration for the statement came from an undocumented VB example I found on the web. I would be most appreciative if someone could explain why this statement is necessary and what does it do? I add a JavaScript event handler to some of my Webcontrols using the Attributes.Add() method as follows: Dim jscode as String = "return (event.keyCode>=65&&event.keyCode<=90);" TextBox2.Attributes.Add("onKeyPress", jscode) You will notice that jscode contains the JavaScript Logical And operator (&&). However, ASP.NET renders this as && in the code that is

I posted a few days ago that it seems to me that the Access 2007 rich text feature does not support: a) full text justification; b) programmatic manipulation. I was hoping that someone might know one way or the other whether that was true or not, or could point me to an article or help text that would. What I have seen so far online and in Access 2007 help seems to confirm the above. But that (or at least (b)) seems incredible that it...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
