I'm writing an application using VB 6.0 as the front-end GUI, and the
MSDE version of SQL Server as the back-end (it's a program for a
really small # of users --- less then 3-4).
I'm trying to determine, through the Visual Basic interface, the
permissions of each user that's using the application on his/her
machine.
For example, let's say I'm user "Michael" that's sitting down at my
machine using the app. I've written. The security...

I am trying to find nodes in an xml document using the XmlDocument class and
having some problems. Everything seems to work OK when there are no encoded
characters (< = <) but when I try to navigate a document in which the
outer nodes are not encoded but the nested nodes are encoded, I can't find
any of the encoded nodes using the XmlDocument selectNodes method. Is there
a simple way to handle this situation? Please advise. Thanks for...

In VB 6, the Form_QueryUnload event had an UnloadMode parameter that let me
find out *why* a form is unloading, and then conditionally cancel the event.
In VB.NET, the Closing event passes a CancelEventArgs that lets me cancel
the Close() operation, but is there still any way to find out *why* a form
is closing?
This app as a form that needs to be loaded at startup, closed only at
shutdown, and then Show() / Hide() for the user. If...

While writing this plea for help, I think I solved my
dilemma, but I don't know why the statement that solved
the problem is necessary. The inspiration for the
statement came from an undocumented VB example I found on
the web. I would be most appreciative if someone could
explain why this statement is necessary and what does it
do?

I add a JavaScript event handler to some of my Webcontrols using the
Attributes.Add() method as follows:
Dim jscode as String = "return (event.keyCode>=65&&event.keyCode<=90);"
TextBox2.Attributes.Add("onKeyPress", jscode)
You will notice that jscode contains the JavaScript Logical And operator
(&&). However, ASP.NET renders this as && in the code that is

I posted a few days ago that it seems to me that the Access 2007 rich text
feature does not support: a) full text justification; b) programmatic
manipulation.
I was hoping that someone might know one way or the other whether that was
true or not, or could point me to an article or help text that would. What I
have seen so far online and in Access 2007 help seems to confirm the above.
But that (or at least (b)) seems incredible that it...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Adolph will...
