Makes me wonder if there is some Windows API or managed method to
programmaticall y search a directory tree for files containing a given
string.
Thanks in advance

Greetings, I am looking for a way to search for and delete files based on a pattern mask. For example, the search method would find all files matching a certain pattern containing wildcards (e.g. *FILE29*.TXT). I'm looking for a way to do this in either Visual Basic or C(++). Thanks!

Hello everyone, I'm reading the rows from a CSV file. csv.DictReader puts those rows into dictionaries. The actual files contain old and new translations of software strings. The dictionary containing the row data looks like this: o={'TermID':'4', 'English':'System Administration', 'Polish':'Zarzadzanie systemem'}

I know I've seen this problem before but I'll be damned if I can remember how to fix it. When I use Windows to search for files of type *.cs (or *.*) containing "sometext" Windows doesn't return any files. I know there are some files containing "sometext". Anyone know how to fix this? TIA

Here's the rest of the tutorial I started earlier: Aside from text within a document, Indexing Service let you search on meta information stored in the files. For example, MusicArtist and MusicAlbum let you find MP3 and other music files based on the singer and album name; DocAuthor let you find Office documents created by a certain user; DocAppName let you find files of a particular program, and so on. Indexing Service uses plug-ins...

Hi I have an application (in vb.NET 2005) which holds data in SQL Server and some of the SQL records are simply paths to related files. I would like to be able to do a text search on both the SQL data and the contents of any referenced files. The returned list being a listing which includes both records containing the text and files containing the text. Does anyone have a simple example of programatically searching for files

In VBA an Access module has a find method - works perfectly to find a string inside a module. i'm working in A97 (legacy) systems (large ones) and want to write code that searches all modules so that I can check on the possible effects of a change. But the 97 modules collection is open modules only. Access 97 doesn't have an allmodules collection - 2000+ does - so I can move the app up for this purpose. But now I find that a module in...

Not sure where to post this... Found some interesting behavior in Windows Search (Start =Search =All files and folders =search for "A word or phrase in the file:"). This applies to XP and maybe other Windows flavors. Procedure: 1. Create a simple text file named test.txt. 2. Open the text file in a text editor and add a simple test word such as "blah" (not quotes).

Introduction In this article I will provide you an approach to manipulate an image file. This article gives you an insight into some tricks in java so that you can conceal sensitive information inside an image, hide your complete image as text ,search for a particular image inside a directory, minimize the size of the image. However this is not a new concept, there is a concept called Steganography which enables to conceal your secret...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
