I'm looking for recommendations on good books for VB .NET. I program in
Java, and have a little experience in VB 6 (while in school 3 years ago).
Beginning to intermediate books is what I'm looking at, based on the amount
of time I have not worked in VB.
I have complied a list of candidates based on consumer reviews from Amazon &
Barnes and Noble, but just wanted to get some suggestions here that I could
cross reference.
Thanks.

Thanks for your time!
I've been programming in asp.net/vb.net for 1.5 years.
I'm currently in the job market. I have to take a .net test at a potential employer. I'd like to try to prepare. I'm not sure what's going to be on the test. Will most likely inlcude ado.net and asp.net at least.
Can you make some recomendations regarding texts to study? If you had to have two texts covering .net, what would they be?
TIA

Dear NG,
I have not heard from anyone about a good book that deals with the
concurrency issue in SQL Server using C#. I have PROMISED Nick I would not
use record locking and I have used an old row / new row approach. (see next
paragraph for my reply to Nick) I would like to use Timestamps and
Transactions to produce an iron-clad and efficient application in a
multi-user environment. Can anyone recommend such a book?
OK Nick, I...

Hi everyone.
I've been working with VB6 for a while now, I'm feeling pretty damn
confortable with it, but find myself wondering about VB.NET and web
applications. So I thought I'd get my feet wet.
Well - let me tell ya - there's a whole lotta stuff that I need to teach
myself. I have a whole slew of questions - to many and propbably just too
basic to go into here - so I am hoping that someone out there can suggest a
book that I can pick...

Can anyone give me a list of essential ASP.NET books? (also ADO.NET)
I've heard ASP.NET Unleashed by Stephen Walther is one of the best around,
but I have seen the numerous Microsoft Press titles in this area too, and am
unsure as to which ones would really benefit me. I am a competent .NET
programmer, but am new to ASP.
Thanks in advance

I am not a programmer by any means, but a dedicated aficionado. I have
good understanding of Java and C/C++, and now I would like to learn
javascript->ajax, but I don't know where to start. My HTML knowledge is
basic, however, with a little bit of an effort I can program a small
page.
Can anyone recommend a good beginner's book on JavaScript?
Please, bear in mind that it is my intention to learn to program server
and client side, thus the...

I would like to receive experiences/ideas/recomendations/etc. from the
community about commercial tools available to tune bufferpools in DB2
for z/OS
I am aware of:
- BPA4DB2 by ESAI
- Buffer Pool Analyzer for z/OS by IBM
- Buffer Pool Tool by Responsive systems
- Pool advisor for DB2 by BMC
Any experience on these tools? Pros/cons? Any other you know/use?
Thanks in advance

I am an experienced programmer (40 years). I've done Algol (if you've
heard of that you must be old too), PL/1, VB,VBA, a little C, and a
few other odd languages (e.g. Taskmate).
I'm interested in learning Python and have downloaded a slew of books.
Too many.
I'd like a recommendation as to which books are considered to be the
cream of the crop.
I know there are tutorials on the web, but, again, I don't know the
quality. I would...

Crockford's JavaScript, The Good Parts (a book review).
This shall perhaps be the world's shortest book review (for one of the
world's
shortests books).
I like Douglas Crockford (because I am a crabby old man too; plus he
_is_
smart and good).. But, how can he write a book on the good parts of
JavaScript
and not mention functions that address CSS & DOM? Weird. It's like

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
