Deactivate all MDI child forms

By default it seems that there always must be an active MDI child form. But, I want to deactivate all of the MDI child forms when the user clicks on a control that is owned by the MDI parent. This is similar to how the MDI child forms in Visual Studio are deactivated when a docking window is selected. Is there any way to do this? I tried Me.ActivateMdiC hild(Nothing) but that doesn't work

Thank you

Hi Lance,

First of all, I would like to confirm my understanding of your issue.
From your description, I understand that you wants to make your MDI
appliation work like the VS.NET IDE.
Have I fully understood you? If there is anything I misunderstood, please
feel free to let me know.

I think the VS.NET IDE is not a usual MDI appliation. And we do not
recommend to change the default behavior of the MDI children form that
there will be one activated window by default. If you wants to make a
control something like VS.NET IDE, I think you may try to take a look at
the third party control.
Here is the link.

I have two forms, a menu and a data entry form. The entry form is bound to a query against linked SQL server tables. In the deactivate event, I have some code which asks the user if they want to save their changes and they can respond with yes, no or cancel. If they press cancel, the entry form stays active with the changes still entered. So, if I'm on the entry form and have entered data, and then click on the menu, the deactivate event...

I remember when I checked NewGroups for comments about the VB6 Activate event and found that many thought it was not a reliable way to keep track of which form has focus. There was enough bad press that I avoided it. I now have a project with MDI child forms and non-MDI child forms coming and going as the user selects different options. I need to know which form is the active one and thought that I could use the Activate and Deactivate...

I've noticed that controls that are contained in MDI child forms fail to raise MouseLeave events if the MDI child form's MdiParent property is set to Nothing (after it was set to an existing MDI container form) or if the MDI child form's Visible property is set to False (after the MDI child form was shown). This is an enormous problem for my app because I must show different MDI child forms based on the state of my application and many of the...

For some reason, when I click the X to close my MDI parent form, the action appears to be re-directed to one of the MDI child forms, and the parent remains open. I am then unable to close the application. What should happen, is that the main MDI form should close, taking the child forms with it. There is code to loop through the child forms, remove the controls on each of them, and then close the form, but this code should execute only...

I have a MDI form, sometimes child forms and sometimes forms that are neither If I close the app the child forms closing and closed event happens followed by the Mdi form receiving the events.. But the regular forms that are also open do not receive that event. This is true whether there are child forms open or not.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
