I'm creating a company intranet, and every employee has certain program we want them to be able to run from it, meaning we want the link to the program to be on the intranet page. For example, Adobe Photoshop resides on all the employees computer under "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Photoshop.exe" However, when I enter that as a hyperlink on the page, it does not run the program. Is there a way to get a web page to run a...

I have a server running NT 4 Server that is on my local domain that hosts an ASP application. I have a problem: when I try to test the ASP application from a computer on the same domain running IE6 on Windows 2000, the browser will not store the session key. Computers running other versions of Internet Explorer store the session key. When I host the application on a Windows 2000 server also on the local domain, the same test computer...

Hello all, I am getting into trouble in what I think is a rather common scenario: In a client-server application, the client is deployed on a network share on the same computer on which the server software is running. When I start the client application on a client computer from the network share it is code that comes from the local intranet. According to all the documentation I have read, such code has permission to "connect back to...

Don't reply to this unless you know what you are talking about. Installed brand spanking new 2003 Server. Configured to be application server. Then installed Visual Studio .NET. Copied over web application from another server and set up normal web site. When I try to debug the application within .NET, it always gives me the error saying that I'm not part of the Debugger Users group. I'm in Administrator, Debugger

Error message: "Unable to start debugging on the web server. Unable to map the debug start page to a machine name." I can no longer run the debugger from my local PC for a project on our web server. You know, F5 in Visual Studio. I can run in debug mode for a project on my local web server. The problem began one day about 3 weeks ago when I ran the project in debug mode and somehow ended up breaking the .NET framework. Thank you...

I have a question or two regarding local users and groups. I have an ASP.NET 2.0 (C#) application (intranet-based, not on the Internet), and, on one of the pages, I have two textboxes for end-users to enter a user name and password. The user name needs to be an actual user that is on the local computer, and the password (obviously) needs to be that user's password. Sounds easy enough so far. Now, the PHB wants validation of the...

Windows Server 2003 SP1, IIS6.0, .NET1.1, VS2003 I got the "URL Is In the Internet Zone" error when trying to debug an ASP.NET application, with 403.0 followed by 401.5 errors in the IIS log. I have several web sites set up on my computer, to get debugging to work I had to allow ASP.NET debugging for "Web Sites", not just the site I was trying to debug in, and allow it to set it on all sites. (Right-click Web Sites, choose...

The problem is that I get security exception (SecurityException System.Security.Permissions.RegistryPermission)...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
