MSN Messenger and DDE links

z
Hello,
I am currently learing Visual Basic, and I have a specific task in mind I
would like to achieve, but am getting a bit lost.

I use MSN Messenger to communicate with friends. You type the dialogue, hit
enter, and it all appears in the dialogue window. Fine. But there are times
when we need to be aware of the time of day, so what I want to do is code a
VB program which will create the required string, and using DDE (or some
other method) to insert that string into my side of MSN Messenger.

The first thing im stuck on, is not knowing what the class names are for the
various link properties I need to connect with. Does anyone know how I can
find this information on my PC please?

Many thanks

I can only give one advice, take another project, this is one were at the
moment very much the security is focussed on.

I think that it will for a lot of expirienced VB prgrammers a hell of a job
to do what you want to do.

Hi Z,

As far as I know VB.NET does not support DDE anymore. If you really want
DDE you'll have to use VB6.

Jan

Thanks for the replies. What I have opted to do, and got it working, is to
use a scripting utility called Autoit. It works, though not as slick as I
would have liked. But adequate.

Thanks again.

Hello again.
I took the opportunity to ask the MSN Messenger online help folks about my
problem, and here is there reply. I'm quite chuffed about it.

Thank you for writing to MSN Messenger service.

We appreciate your suggestions and feedback. I think a VB program code is a
good idea and will greatly improve our service. I'm including this in the
list of feature request so that the Production Team can evaluate this for
the next release.

For additional online help, please go to:

Sincerely,

Reiden

I need urgent help. Done OK for a newbie getting automation of Windows Messenger into a Winform C# app but have three problems that I urgently need pointers to. Point 1 and 2 are the same issue, I think. Point 3 might relate to a threading issue: 1. I have written a C# Winform application that uses Windows messenger automation. When I attempt to send a file through the window messenger object, there is some horrid screen flicking...

Has anyone had this experience yet? What I'd like to do is have a Windows Service monitoring and automating Windows Messenger on a server. I've already begun a proof of concept by creating a little Windows app that connects to or creates an instance of Windows Messenger. It even makes it log in using cached credentials. From there, I can access the Contact List, and even listen for events that are raised by the Messenger client. So,...

Hi, I don't know if there's anyone who tried referencing and using MSN messenger API Type Library(COM tab -msmsgs.exe) but it doesn't do anything on class instantiation and after a while a DCOM registration error is logged on event log indicating Messenger CLSID. I try to create an instance using as suggested on some web-docs: Dim msn As New MessengerAPI.Messenger (no error on designer) ...and using any function of this class does...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
