How do I select text in textbox (highlighted) like I used to do in VB 6?

Hi,

Can't figure out how to highlight text in a textbox for reentry of input.
Used to do it with SelectLength and SelectStart but this doesn't seem to
work with .NET.

Ideas?

TIA,

Larry,
Did you know that the Enter event is not a keyboard event but has the
oposite meaning from leave control.
"Enter, gotfocus, leave, validating, validated, lostfocus"
Maybe you did want to use this, but I doubt it,
I think you want a button or something or a keyevent like keydown.
Just some guesses

Hello When tabbing in a textbox that contains text, the text string is usually highlighted so that if the user starts typing new text in the textbox, the old text is erased. Is there a way that when tabbing in the textbox, the text string would not be highlighted and the cursor would go to the end of the text string where the user could just start typing in new text without erasing the old text.

I thought when you tabbed into a textbox that the text it contained was automatically highlighted. This use to be the default in win32. Is there an easy way to do this in .NET. I don't want this to happen if the mouse is used to select the TextBox. Seems wierd, If the Textbox has the default text in it the higlight works but not if you edit it. Thanks.

I have a text box select items in a listview as text is being typed into the text box. I get the select bar to move correctly in the Listview control. If the user presses the down or up key in the text box, I want to move to the selected item in the listview box. The down or up arrow does set focus to the listview box and the selected item switches from the grey of being unfocused to the blue of focus. So far, so good.

I asked this question a couple of days ago but am just now looking at it again. I used to use the textbox gotfoucs event to have all the text in the textbox selected when it gotfocus. That doesn't seem to work in .net when the textbox receives focus via a mouse click. Jeffrey and Shane both advised how to get a mouse click to select all the text (thank you both) but using the mousedown or mouseup events doesn't work the way I want it...

Hey, Here is a quick question: I have two forms that I am using, and I need to highlight the text in Form1 by clicking and dragging (obviously). So, when I switch to Form2 (making it the focused form), I want to still be able to see the highlighted text in Form1 even though the form is not focused. When I click back to Form1, I see the highlighted text, but if I focus Form2, I don't see the highlighted text. Is there a way that I can...

I want to be able to select a word when I highlight over any part of the word. When I say select the word, I want it to be highlighted as if I left clicked my mouse and dragged the cursor along the word. I want to do this so a user when putting the mouse over the word can quickly hit <ctrl>c to copy the word, without having to manually highlight the word. This will be used multiple times in the script for specific words, not for every...

I know this is normal operation for the C# TextBox control, but it will not show highlighted text as being highlighted until focus is given to that particular control. I was wondering, is it possible to change this behavior? Thanks in advance.

Hi I have a teeny problem that I cannot solve. I load HTML Source into a textbox and have a "find' button that searches through the text using the Instr Function, and highlights the result using the Selectionlength and Selectionstart properties. This is working perfectly, however if the source does not fit in the textbox, I sometimes have to manually scroll down to see the

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
