Is there a Python function in any of the
standard-distribution modules that does
what the backticks do in Perl?
I want to run an external command and I'd
like its output to be captured directly
in my Python script in the form of a string
object.
The function os.system() or any of the

Hello:
I've done an exhaustive online search and either can't find what I'm looking
for or I'm unable to make what I've found work. I'm not a programmer, but
I'm sure that this is probably elementary stuff.
What I have is a form which is being POSTed to an ASP script which processes
the script and emails it to a specified recipient (which is set in a hidden
form field).

Hi
I have asked several groups now for advise but I feel I must be
confusing either them or myself, but anyway here goes!
Below is code taken from the "OnClick" function of a
command button within a Sub-form called Plots.
This Sub-form resides along side six other Sub-forms
within the Details section of a main form called Session

Hi -
I've been reading the posts for a solution to my query, and realize
that I should ask an "approch" question as well.
We receive our production data from a third party, so my uers import
the data from Excel into the appropriate tables. There are 6
different databases that receive data, though 4 of them only get one
table each.
I have learned how to automate the data import through

Hi,
does someone know, if it's possible capturing the content of a panel, when
its form has state "minimized"?
Details:
A panel contains a Webbrowser object (AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser). My actual
application automatically navigates to some websites, makes a screenshot
and transforms them into small thumbnails. At the moment I'm using the
imported function BitBlt from gdi32.dll. This solutions only works, if the

Hope somebody can help!
I want to automatically be able to add code to the initialize routine on a Windows form when I add a custom control that I've written to a form.
Specifically, I'm trying to data bind to a normal class. So I've extended the standard text box to include a field for object name and property name. I want to be able to add a line such as :
controlname.DataBindings.Add("Text", objectName, "myPropertyName")
I've...

I have a page with one form. I have one textbox in the page. I call a
client-side function on the OnKeyUp event of the textbox. This function
looks at the keycode of the keyup event on the textbox and checks for
13 which is the keycode for enter key. If I detect this keycode then I
do 2 things
(1) Set a hidden variable
(2) submit the form
I have noticed that the page is posted twice this way. But If I use a
button instead of detecting...

Hi,
I'm using a modal dialog box to input data. I have created properties on the
dialog form to capture the data so that it might be read from the main form
via the dialog form. This approach encapsulates the data & I can implement
the business logic in the dialog form.
This leaves me with the quiestion. There is no Class representing the data
I'm capturing, (say, it's a customer) apart from the dialog form class. The
form now...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
