Is there a way to open file for writing so that the opening
fails if the file already exist? This needs to be atomic
operation so that it is possible to use the file as a
semaphore. As a result, the following coding does not do:
if (!file.exist()) {
// open the file for writing

A similar function definitely exists for accessing files in

Hi all,
I want to put a button on a page, and when the user clicks it, the standard
Windows "Open File" dialogue box opens, and the user can browse/select a
file on their PC. Having selected a file, the user clicks Open, and I then
want to capture the file path and name in a string variable. Finally, I
want to upload the file to the server.
BUT: I don't want to use an <input type="file"> control.

Hi
I have my home directory on my departments server. Somehow I am not
able to write to a file using a php code,
$myFile = "trial3.txt";
$fh = fopen($myFile, "a+") or die("can't open file");
Instead of a+ if i use r or w or anything, it does not work. Could this
be a permission thing? The entire directory had a 777 permission and
even i after i created a file and chmod'ed 777 to it, the code couldnt
open it. What could be the matter?...

Hi. I'm writing an archival system which I'd like to be portable
to Windows.
The system relies on the property of Unix which allows a
process to keep a file open even if another process renames
it while it is open. Neither process sees any anomaly or
error.
Do the NT file systems support this feature (which I think is
standard for POSIX systems)?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
