SQL Server 2000 - how do I change the name?

I need to change the name of the SQL Server on my development machine. My
client's server name is "Server1". My development server name is
"MachineName1\S erverTest".

I am writing a Visual Basic application. Everything is working great on my
development system, but I have to go in a change the connection strings.
Each time I change one, it takes about a couple minutes for the prompt to
come back saying it timed out trying to find the server. I want to rename
my server to be the same as my client's server so I won't have this time out
annoyance in my development environment.

I did a sp_dropserver and sp_addserver, but that does not change the machine
name of the server. Thanks in advance for any help.

What happens when your client wants to put your product into production.
Will the production SQL Server have to have the same name as their
development server?

Go the easy route. Use a different connection string within your app.

You cannot change name of an instance. You can, however, use "Client Network Utility" to specify an
alias name.

Hi I've spent ALL DAY trying to re-install SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP. I continually get the error 'cannot configure server' just at the end of the installation. I've tried the following: - Removing SQL server from 'Program Files' folder following an unsuccessful attempt to re-install, and entirely removing the registry entry 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > MSSQLServer', as well as the corresponding entry under...

I've created a small company database where the tables reside in a SQL Server database. I'm using Access 2000 forms for a front end. I've got a System DSN set-up to SQL Server and am using links within Access 2000 to get to the SQL Server tables. My forms worked fine until I made a few minor changes to the database schema on SQL Server (e.g. added a foreign key, or added a column). After that, all the links break - I click on a table...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
