Constipated publisher (SQL 2005)

Jim
We have a 2005 Publisher that is publishing to one 2005 subscriber and two
2000 subscribers. It's been fine, but yesterday I had to import some data
into one of the tables that is being published.

The data isn't huge in terms of number of rows (less than 3,000) but each
record contains a lot of data. Since importing, the subscriptions for that
table are failing, claiming not to be able to query row metadata at the
subscribers. In addition the Publisher starts using more and more memory
(the replmerge process) and slows down until it's virtually unusable.

I'm guessing that perhaps a custom profile might be of use here, but I'm not
at all clear as to which aspects to alter. I'd be inclined to up the query
and keepalive timouts, but would altering the read and write batch sizes
down from 100 to, say, 5 help?

Many thanks.

Jim

Hello All, The setting is SQL server 7, on Windows NT. If the distributor can not access the log on the publisher database ( but subscribers are not deleted yet), will the full backup of the publisher database truncate the transaction log? My guess is, it will not truncate the log. Can any one confirm please? Thanks,

Hi All, I am fairly new to MS SQL Replication. I have two servers one is setup as the publisher and the other is setup as both the subscriber and the distributor. Due to server reboots, the publicher DB became corrupted therefore we pointed all activity to the subscriber DB. Now we would like to bring back the publisher online, but we do not have a backup.

I have a wired situation..! I set up transactional replication on one of my development server (SQL 2000 Dev Edition with sp4). It is running fine without any issues and all of a sudden, i noticed in my repication monitor tab under Publisher where I usually see the publication is empty now. I do see the snapshot agent, log reader and distribution agent under my

I used Visual Studio 2005 to create a "Windows Installer Package". When I ran the package on a Windows XP computer, I got a warning -- "Unknown publisher". My question is: what steps do I need to take to get rid of the warning? I do not want to my customers to warnings like this. Thanks Charles Zhang

I have just upgraded Visual Studio from 2003 to 2005 and am in the process of converting my VB applications. Most conversions have gone quite smoothly. However, I have several Add-Ins that I developed to add button bars to Publisher 2003. When built these under VS 2003, they worked. I used the conversion wizard in VS 2005 to convert them. I then rebuilt and installed them. They refused to work in Publisher. I checked the registry and it...

If we are doing a 1-way replication from a SQL Server 2000 (Publisher) through a firewall to a SQL Server 2005 (Subscriber), do any ports need to be opened from the Subscriber back to the Publisher? That is, we have 1433, 1434 opened outgoing from the Publisher to Subscriber but for successful communications, do any ports have to be opened the other way? Sorry, I'm new to this. Thanks, Mike H.

We currently have SQL Server 2000 and have merge replication. We have the following process 1. Data is transfered to a laptop, data on the laptop is changed and the data on the server is 'locked' no changes can be made. 2. After a few days, the laptop is returned to the office. 3. A script is ran to delete the data on the publisher. Replication works, the subscriber side is updated with the change (no data in the tables).

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
