Advice for grouping stored procedures?

2 New Member
I am preparing to upgrade a fairly large application, so I'm looking for some advice before I begin my design. I have quite a bit of experience in Oracle, but I am required to use SQLServer for data storage in this application. When using Oracle, it is easy to group related stored procedures into packages. In SQLServer; however, I don't seem to have that option. Any opinions on a good way to group code for easy maintenance and navigation (i.e. in Management Studio - I'd prefer not to see a list of several hundred stored procedures)? I've already thought about naming conventions, but I'd prefer a solution that is more like the Oracle package solution.

In SQL 2005 you can create a project and store all scripts for procs in it also you can use Schemas to group your database objects and rights to them.

Good Luck.

I am looking for information, books, websites, etc that will help me figure out the following things in MSSQL and Oracle: 1. Optimizing the database configuration itself. 2. Optimal table and index design. 3. Optimizing SQL statement lookups. 4. Anything else that might help to speed up our database applications. Any advice at all would be useful.

I was following the thread "Re: Access Treeview - Is it Safe Yet?" with interest and on reading the post describing Lauren Quantrell's SmartTree, I've run into something I don't understand: Stored Procedures. I thought stored pricedures were an Oracle/MS SQL Server thing and don't know how they work with Access Jet. I've looked at some of the help on stored procedures in A2003, but really don't understand what's going on. Can someone...

I am writing a C#.NET application that is primarily intended to be used with SQL server. One of my concerns is that in the future I will have users who do not have or want to run SQL Server. That led me to think that perhaps I should be using ODBC from the start. What are your thoughts and suggestions on this? Will I still be able to run stored procedures and use disconnected data sets if I use ODBC? Will there be any loss of...

Hello, I'm working on a project in which i use Sql Server stored procedures to add and modify the records of our customers. This works fine, but when writing these stored procedures, i must use a lot of parameters (around 20) to add or modify a customer. It's long to write but i can deal with that. However, i was wondering if it is really efficient. In this case are stored procedures with many parameters better than using a dataset to

The purpose for my questions is accessing these technologies from applications. I develop both applications and databases. Working with Microsoft C#.NET and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Production and 2005 Test Environments. What is the purpose of a view if I can just copy the vode from a view and put it into a stored procedure? Should I be accessing views from stored procedures?

Hello All, I'm investigating moving some Access 2003 applications over to SQL Server 2005, using Access ADP as the front-end. It's would also be very important to use stored procedures and unbound Access forms. I don't really need help on stored procedures or SQL server specifically, more how to implement the particular scenario I outlined Are there any books/internet resources out there that people would recommend?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
