Streaming database updates?

Hi,

I have a database that I update every minute with financial data.

On another machine, a different user will need to get these updates as
soon as they occur. They will probably be using Excel to do this.

What is the best way to get the data into Excel, bearing in mind that
the Excel machine won't know exactly when the database is updated.
I've been thinking about it, and the only solution I can come up with
is to run a query every few seconds. This is obviously not ideal.

Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Enter The.

I am playing with the XMLHTTPRequest method to perform client/server transactions. I have it set up right now so that when readyState is 4, it takes the XML and processes it. This works great until there is alot of data. In that case, the user will have to wait for the data to come back which may take a minute or so. I don't want the user to have to wait. Is it possible for javascript to periodically (while still receiving more data)...

I have an ASP.Net web app that generates a Crystal Report in PDF format. Since there is sensitive data within the reports, the pdfs need to be streamed to the browser then deleted immediately. The report gets kick off by a Java application redirecting the URL to the ASP.Net app on the IIS Server with all report selection criteria appended to the querystring. The Crystal Report is rendered in a new window. In the Page_Load() event, I...

Hi all, is there a better way to stream binary data stored in a table in sql 2005 to a browser in .net 2.0? Or is the code same as in .net 1.1? We noticed that in certain heavy load scenarios, every now and then the client would timeout and have to re-initiate the request... TIA!

Hi everyone, We've have files we'd like to store in a SQL Server blob or text column and make available online for our clients. Instead of linking to a document sitting on a file server, we figure it'll be easier to manage the document store this way. Could someone point me to a tutorial or online docs on what classes .Net provides for streaming bytes (I assume that's what I'll be doing) from a database to a web browser and vice...

Hi guys. I've put together a website ( http://worldwidemediaproject.com ) that is a database of internet streaming tv/radio stations from around the world. I have built the site with all users in mind. The site should be Linux, Unix, Mac, Win, etc friendly as I do not hide the actual stream link or force the user to use an embedded player to view/listen to the streams. In fact, you can even download the streams you like as a playlist that...

I have an aspx page that is sending pdf files to client browsers: it uses a filestream to read the pdf file and response.binarywrite to send content to the browser. This has worked great for years in IE, Firefox and Opera on windows, and it works on a Mac with Firefox and Opera. But this fails in Safari with the generic message "A network error occurred while accessing this document". Here is a link to try out ...

hi, Lemme give u a little background on my problem. Ive created a client and server applications that receive and stream live time values. The client software is a clock that receives the time and displays it in a wpf app. Now when i use the DateTime. Now on the client app locally without using streaming the clock works great. However when I stream it from a server app which is also running on my computer or on a remote computer there is...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
