How Do I Block Port 1434 - Need Simple And Clear Answer

9 New Member
I've been looking through sites to see if anyone could provide the correct steps to block port 1434, which is a MSSQL port.

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY was smart enough to give a clear and simple answer. The question again is...

HOW DO I BLOCK PORT 1434?

*** answers include the following:
Go to your firewall....
You don't need to block it...
Technically you don't want to block it...
You need to get windows service pack...

I wrote a little script to run on my desktop that listens for connections on udp 1434, watching for remaining systems that have slammer problems. I noticed that every system on our network that has SQL Server on it sends a single 0x02 byte to that port on my PC every 15 to 30 minutes. Is this a sign of a problem? Or is this

How can I determine which port MS SQL is running. I known that this can be set at SQL Server Network Utility, but I wonder why my ASP.NET script can connect to SQL Server even I change its running port. Another thing I want to know.... actually it doesn't concern with SQL that is, how can I watch all the enviroment variable in Windows XP, such as %systemroot% and how can I set that one

I'm doing some vulnerability assessments of MS SQLServer installations using AppDetective. On doing the "discovery" proble (to find the instances), I find that I get two "hits" -- port 1433 shows the MS SQALServer instance, but port 1434 comes up with MS SQL Server Redirector. The online books seems to be a bit light on waht the use of this port is for.

Hi, I have this Applet-hosted Socket connection to my server and in an ONevent/function I am retrieving all these lovely rows from the server and inserting them into the Select-List. (The on screen appearance of the Select List grows for the first 5 rows then the scroll bar appears if there's more). So far so good. . . The problem is that none of the rows I'm inserting appear on the screen until I have RETURNed from my function; so If...

I am using a System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database. I instantiate the SqlConnection with a connection string... Hi all, I'm having some trouble with connecting to SQL server instance lately without adding a port number. I used to be able to always connect to instance without having to input SQLSERVER,portnumber. However now this is not the case. I doing this through an ADO connection object, and creating the connection string. Does anyone know if there was a recent Microsoft update or patch that would've cause this to stop allowing me to...

I have a virus scanner telling me a port is open and I have some type of trojan. I scan the entire HD and "nothing" was found. I visited the virus scan website and it only tells me how to view open/listening ports, but not how to close it. I do not want to take any risks and I rather just close that port specially if I'm not using it. I already did a search for port 1434 and honestly, I do not need it open. What can I do to close it,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
