textcopy binary transfer fails on certain files

6 New Member
Hi everyone

I have a system running on a 2 server environment. One server has the internal database (SQL SERVER 2000 with an MSAccess front end on the clients) and is not open to the internet. The other is just a web server, runs IIS6 and can communicate with SQL Server on the other box only - no direct access to files or anything else due to firewalls.

I needed a system, whereby files (images docs pdfs etc) could be made available to people on the website running off the web box. I have created a system that uses SQL Server's textcopy.exe to copy files to a temporary table in SQL Server and then stream them down to the website using ASP - they are then deleted from the temp table.

It works perfectly on certain files and others of a similar size and type crash the whole system - to get it running again I have to recyle the application pool in IIS.

I tried running the textcopy stored procedure from Query analyser and it just sits there saying "executing query batch" (longest I have left it is about 1 hour). If I then cancel the execution, after a short time it says the connection was broken!

It always fails on the same files and is always successful on other files. I can post some code but not sure which bits to post - Anyone got any ideas?

Many Thanks

I have done some more investigating and it appears it fails on any filename with more than 100 chracters in the full path.

Anyone know a way to get round that?

Cheers

I know it may not be good design standards, but SQL7 can handle database names that have embedded spaces just fine, you just need to enclose the database name in square brackets. But can TEXTCOPY handle spaces in the database name? I first tried something like: TEXTCOPY /S server /U sa /P password /D mydatabase /t /C columnname /W...

I am writing a quick program to edit a binary file that contains file paths (amongst other things). If I look at the files in notepad, they look like: <gibberish>file//g:\pathtofile1<gibberish>file//g:\pathtofile2<gibberish> etc. I want to remove the "g:\" from the file paths. I wrote a console app that successfully reads the file and...

Hi all, is there a better way to stream binary data stored in a table in sql 2005 to a browser in .net 2.0? Or is the code same as in .net 1.1? We noticed that in certain heavy load scenarios, every now and then the client would timeout and have to re-initiate the request... TIA!

I'm trying to write a little utility that will write some binary data to a file via a javascript and Windows Script Host under Windows XP. The only way to do this that I can find is to convert the binary data to text via String.fromCharCode() function and then write to the file with TextStream.Write(). But that function gives an "invalid...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. For...
