Hi all,
I've got a simple question regarding stl containers. Consider this
code:
std::vector<float> foo;
foo.resize(100);
How do I know if memory allocation was successful? The resize method
returns nothing. I understand that resize does not always allocate

Hi All,
I use new to allocate some memory,even I doesn't use delete to release them.
When my Application exit, OS will release them.
Am I right?
If I'm right, how about Thread especally on Solaries OS?
This means that I use new to allocate memory in one Thread and doesn't use
delete to release them.

Hi all,
I need to know, what is the difference between dynamic memory
allocation, and stack allocation ?
1. If I have a class named DestinationAddress, when should I use
dynamic memory allocation to create object of that class ?
2. If it says "dynamic memory allocation", is it mean the
following code :
DestinationAddress* dest = new DestinationAddress(); // code 1

We have been trying to upgrade all our C++ projects from VC6 to VS .Net2003
for a while (before VS 2005 arrived), and seem to be stuck now because of the
performance degradation seen for the same code when compiled by the new
compiler compared to being compiled by VC 6 compiler.
Originally we thought it was the STL libraries that had killed all
performance but it seems to be a general memory allocation problem in VS .Net
2003 (and also in...

Hello,
I noticed that when I dynamically create an array of chars, the
resulting size of the allocated memory block is larger by about 15
bytes than what I specified. Here is example code:
char *createTextBuffer(char *buffer, int length)
{
buffer = new char;

How can I really delete a preloaded image from memory/disk cache? Let's
say I preload an image by creating an Image object and setting its src
attribute to desired URL:
var img = new Image();
img.src = ;
Then I use the image a few more times by adding it into an Array
object:

In C programming, I want to know in what situations we should use
static memory allocation instead of dynamic memory allocation. My
understanding is that static memory allocation like using array is
faster than malloc, but dynamic memory allocation is more flexible.
Please comment... thanks.

Hello,
I have a question on memory allocation for containers. I know what
happens when I ask for a container of a certain size or when the
container grows to accommodate new elements. The question I had is
what does the OS do when an application requests for memory, for ex
from a code using stls? Does the application get what it requests ?
and where does the memory provided reside, will it be in the memory
allocated to the application? or...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
