Hi,
Still in the design process of a Windows 2003 web server with a SQL backend.
Expecting to have about 2000 visitors a day accessing lists and search
queries on a 200-300 MB db. This server will be collocated in a datacenter.
I have a few scenarios that I would appreciate in getting some
comments/criticism on:
Scenario 1:
Box 1, SBS 2003 Premium (with SQL 2000), 2GB RAM, Raid 5 HD

I am planning to build a server to be used as a SQL Server and web server.
Right now I can only use a single box for both.
I have read some threads were dual processors are having problems with some
parallel queries and the suggestions of having sql server use a single CPU.
My budget is limited so I am debating whether to get 2.6G dual xeon 533FSB
or dual P4 800FSB (DRR@ ram) or stick with a speedy single cpu.
If I get a dual cpu...

Hi,
Have a quick question. Having a problem connecting from the IIS server
(windows 2000 sp3) which hosts the asp.net application to retrieve data from
an SQL server (windows nt 4, sql 7). The error keeps coming up SQL server
does not exist or access denied. I've checked the permissions, etc and it
seems to be fine. I used query analyzer from the windows 2000 (has
enterprise connectivity tools) machine and it works. Here is the...

Hey all, sorry for asking such a grunt question, and thanks in advance
for any help...
My hosting ISP offers access to their MS-SQL database, and my
understanding is that it's generally simplest to use some sort of
client app to do stuff like adding tables and whatnot.
SQL Server includes Enterprise Manager, but since my ISP is running the
server, I don't need my own copy of SQL Server, just the client.

First off, sorry if my cross posting offends anyone. I'm posting this
in Access and SQL Server groups - not sure which one is appropriate.
I have a relatively simple ASP.NET/VB.NET application that is now
hitting an Access 2000 database over an intranet. We have to migrate
the database to SQL Server 7. My experience with ASP.NET is pretty
limited and my experience with SQL Server is nonexistent.
We have an MSDN subscription, so I went...

I'm having a system using Access 2000 as both front-end (queries,
forms, reports & temp tables for reports) & back-end (data) with
back-end running on the server. The application runs on the network
with around 15 users.
The back-end database is suffering from performance issues. There were
several corruptions since few months & one major corruption & corrupted
the MSysObjects table. Also, the system will run batch process that
generate...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
