I'm considering adding domain integrity checks to some of my database table
items. How does adding such constraints affect SQL Server performance? For
example, I have a simple constraint that restricts a couple of columns to
having values within the values assigned in my application by an
enumeration:
(( >= 0 and <=3) and ( >= 0 and <=
2))
This enforces domain integrity for two enumerations having values 0, 1, 2, 3

I've read that it is best not to use exceptions willy-nilly for stupid purposes as they can be a major performance hit if they are thrown. But is it a performance hit to use a try..catch..finally block, just in case there might be an exception? i.e. is it ok performance-wise to pepper pieces of code with try..catch..finally blocks that must be robust, in order that cleanup can be done correctly should there be an exception?

Which takes more work for the system, performing two evaluations on an And
or performing short-circuiting on an AndAlso?

I have an ASP site that works with an Oracle database using an ADODB connection. This connection is stored in a .dll file. This site had been working fine.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
