Dear all,
I have an application which is suppose to start another executable process.
As soon as that process is running, I need to retrive its handle. The
problem of the particular process I am starting is that it has a welcome
window first which gets displayed and then the real windows after a while,in
other words it means that the process name is the same, but the handle I need
to retrive is the one from the final window and not the...

I ran into a situation where my Window Service had to process 100,000+
files, when I first noticed I needed to tweak various routines.
Everything runs fine, but here's what I ran into:
In the routine that loops through the file buffer:
for (int i=0;i < _Buffer.length; i++)

Hi all...
I am currently running some performance tests on some ASP.NET Web Services.
The test is being run on a dual proc machine and we are capturing a number
of performance counters in PerfMon.
One observation I have made is this - the Process\Thread Count perf counter
is very different across both worker processes. e.g. because it is a dual
proc machine I have two worker processes. The thread count on CPU#0 is quite

Hi,
I'm trying to use a WMI script in a VB.NET application to query for a
perticular process running and return it's threadcount to the
application.
I was hoping I could simply substitute:
SELECT * FROM Win32_Process WHERE NAME = 'ZTOPTASK'
in the place of the Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration and change the
DNSDomain portions to if mo("ThreadCount") > 0 then
ListBox7.Items.Insert(0, "" & mo("ThreadCount"))

I am working on a generic way to launch multiple similar processes (threads)
at once, but limit the number of threads running at any one time to a number
I set. As I understand it the following line makes a Queue "thread safe", so
I do not need to explicitly lock and unlock it when multiple threads are
working with it.
'Thread safe queue
Private IndexQueue As Queue = Queue.Synchronized(New Queue)

Hello!
I have a couple of final ( I hope, for your sake ) questions regarding
PostgreSQL.
I understand PostgreSQL uses processes rather than threads. I found this
statement in the archives:
"The developers agree that multiple processes provide
more benefits (mostly in stability and robustness) than costs (more

How to stop a process which is running in a separate thread!!!
I've got a class which performs some lengthy process in a background
(separate) thread. And this lengthy process raises events regularly to inform
the main thread of the progress (which is then displayed to the user).
Since the event is raised from another thread, i've used me.Invoke() to
update the ui properly.
However, my problem is in cancelling the process.
I need to...

Why does Thread class not support IDisposable? It's creating quite
some problem. Namely, it can exhaust the resource and you have not
control over it.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
