Remove deleted files

1 New Member
I encountered such an unexpected phenomenon as deleting files on an external disk because of the installation of windows 10 through the creation of the installer on the external , because of this, very many files were lost, mostly documents and photos.
The external disk is 970gb approximately, it was divided into an unallocated area - 932gb and the one where the Windows installer was ...
They advised Ontrack Easy Recovery, I scan it, but I'm afraid to do something, and then I'll destroy any databases to hell, they also offered PhotoRec, but I do not understand anything with this console thing. How to return files with unplaced areas back and then merge the regions into one to not consume everything?
I do not know where to turn ... help with advice on how and what to do, and yes, the curve, and important files to restore ...
My actions were: 1) I installed Windows on a disk, it was divided and the area with 32GB and the installation program for Windows remained. 2) this installer removed from fear and left an empty area 32GB and unplaced. 3) scanned and no more.
And is it right that I scan this program and will it help?

Such recoveries can be very complex and is beyond what we would normally attempt via "remote control"

IMHO: Your best option is to immediately quit using the external drive, the more you use the greater the chance of total loss, and contact a local shop to help you mirror your drive and create a recovery. By mirroring the drive they can attempt multiple methods of recovery restoring from the backup copy if the drive crashes. Yes, this will cost money; however, it's the most assured method to recover your drive.
> Ask the local shop how they will recover your drive - if they don't specifically say that they will first "Mirror", "Make a Backup Copy", "Duplicate the Drive", or something similar - run, don't walk, to the next available shop!

>ALL of the "Freeware" programs I've seen will have difficulty recovering a drive "damaged" from a WinOS installer. The ones that will recover tend to require someone that knows what they are doing with HANDS-ON the PC to successfully recover the drive.

>> If you don't know how to properly merge/manage partitions - STOP!!!! You many permanently lose your data and may make the drive unusable without a low-level reformat.

For Other Readers Lesson to be learned here
Disconnect your external drives before attempting to install any new WindowsOS - The WindowsOS installer for Win7 and newer likes to take ownership of the external drive and reformat it for use for the OS and it's EXTREAMLY difficult to recover from without HANDS-ON help from someone that has experience recovering such drives.

If you have an old website up and you want to replace it with totally different content, how do you purge the old website files that are still lingering on the host server taking up space? I find that when I put up a different site at the same address, it shows the old files still being there adding to the cumulative amount of space being used. Thanks!

Is it possible to remove all or individual "recent files" from the "Recent files list" in MS Access XP? It would be preferred to be a programatic method using VBA as the system is locked down tight and editing registry will not be an option. I am trying to have code run when closing "database x" to ensure "database x" does not appear in the recent files list.

Hi, I have program, which opens file at the startup and logs error messages to the file, file handle is closed at the end of the program. However if file is deleted in-between, program do not report any error while writing to the open file handle. On Windows, file shows-up again in explorer and automatically deleted finally when program ends. On Unix, same thing happens if file is on nfs mounted drive, but in this case, actual file is...

Hello, I have created a Installation program for my app using the .NET Setup & Deployment project. The program has two executables. The first (let's call App A), is the main application. The second (App B) is called by App A on startup, writes a registry key, and then is deleted by App A. This way, it only runs ONCE and then is deleted. The really WIERD part is that the next time I run the main app (App A), I briefly see the MSI...

Hi When running a Systemtec/Norton scan various jpeg/mpeg files are listed as being scanned (they do not appear as dangerous). However I understand these files where manually deleted sometime ago. Thing is, I can't actually find the folders/files in the folder list even when showing hidden files, why are they shown as being scanned when they apparently don't exist/display?- is this a Windows or Sytemtec issue. I've IM with Sytemtec on a...

Good morning at all, i have to implement a server, that every n-seconds (eg. 10sec) sends to other clients, which files and directory has been deleted or modified. i build a n-tree, for each files on harddisk there's a node into n- tree, this solution is not good for large hard disk.. and i can't use inotify (it's forbidden), and only c solutions are accepted without third party software or external calls.

Help, help, help. My friend wiped out a spreadsheet, and then saved it blank somehow (unless the computer did it, which I doubt). I don't know how to access the History, to find an earlier saved version. Can I do this? I tried system restore (ofcourse, no luck), and it's not in the recycling bin and restore.....it's gone, daddy, gone. Please reply. Thank you.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
