How do you remove old files from your host server?

Doc
If you have an old website up and you want to replace it with totally
different content, how do you purge the old website files that are
still lingering on the host server taking up space? I find that when I
put up a different site at the same address, it shows the old files
still being there adding to the cumulative amount of space being used.

Thanks!

Why don't you, well... delete the files?

Any FTP program ought to be able to delete the files. If for some reason
they're unindexed but still taking space, I'd contact the host and request
they erase all your space. Then you can re-upload everything to a truly
empty directory.

if you can execute commands on the host, (and it's a unix box) try this in
your root directory

rm -rf *

I have been hosting a website on the same server for roughly 2 years. The entire site is based on a group of PHP scripts. Today, without changing a thing, the server stopped recognizing all PHP keywords and syntax. When I use firefox, the page simply displays a text/plain version of my source code. When I use IE, the page loads as text/html, however, all lines of PHP code (between "<?" and "?>") are displayed as text. My assumption...

Hi all! For my FTP library module ftputil , some users have asked for a way to avoid server timeouts (FTP status code 421). But I haven't found out yet how I can do this in all cases. I try to explain the problem in more detail. The following is rather special and probably not so easy to understand, but I'll do my best. Please ask if you need more information.

Greetings. I use asp. what I need is is when a visitor comes to the site, I need it to check the host name. if "www.hometowndigest.com" is the host, then check a folder named "something" and if the folder does not exsist, create folder "www" and then copy folder "temp" and its contents. If the folder "www" is there, look in it, check to see if the files in folder "temp" are in there, if not, copy the files that are not from folder...

Hi, in the home directory I put .htaccess with "register_globals 0". Obviously, all php-files from this directory will not take variables from the address line. But, as far as I understand, the .htaccess files influences on all files in the subdirectories so that they also cannot take the variables from the address line. Should it be like that?

How to Q: Uncompressing ~400K files on Apache Server Hello All, I have ~400K html files on my local XP machine and I’d like to compress the files, upload them onto my host (apache - pair.com) and uncompress them there. I’ve done this with less files (~10K) before – using ssh, putty and unzip command. I seem not to be able to use the same method as ZIP

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
