Question #1

Hi Guys

I'm so new to this I'm still wrappedn in plastic. ( forget the perv jokes)

I have been eveloping in a wide variety fo languages for a long time so programming is nothing new.

What I don't quite understand is why use Ruby rather than ASP or PHP or Java

Or is it merely an easy route into learning to program before going on to higher things?

I knwo this may sound daft, but if I'm to jsutify investment of my time in getting to grips with it then at least I should know why, rather than spend a lot of time to find out it does nothing more than anything else

Regards

Well, I use it because:

PHP is a horrible language.

I am fond of Ruby as a scripting language.

It makes Web Ap dev fast and easy, though the defaults can be bypassed as needed to suit.

It's true that there are similar packages out there for Python and Java, but Rails just got to me first.

ASP.... well....

:-)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
